D&D 5E [5e] QL's Al-Qadim Game

3? Holy crap i thought it said 2.

Sent from my SM-G935P using EN World mobile app

I pretty much am going very closely to the DMG pg. 38 recommendations about equipment for starting at higher level in a "high magic" game.

That says:
[SECTION]5,000 gp plus 1d10 x 250 gp, three uncommon magic items, one rare item, normal starting equipment[/SECTION]

Only difference is that I upped the starting gold to 10,000 gp per PC instead, for a total of 50,000 gp for the party. Most of that still remains, as I noted here.

Just finished some tables for the Brotherhood modeled after those in Volo's Guide to Monsters... Going to try it out... My creative interpretations are in italics.

Name d20/d20
Backstory d10
Brotherhood Rank d10
Factions within the Brotherhood d8
Goal d10
Secret d10
Flaw d8
Ideal d8
Roleplaying Trait d8
Minions d10
Treasure d12

(name 10, 6) Souzani Majeed (Flamedeath fedayeen*). human female (backstory 8) Parents were Brotherhood mages, encouraging her to advance in the ranks... to oust the Bonfire. (factions 4) However, she was loyal to the Bonfire, assassinating her parents (brotherhood rank 4) and joining the Flamedeath holy slayers. (goal 7) She is attempting to outmaneuver her rival mage sister in the Brotherhood, (secret 4) whose spells Souzani knows from studying under her parents. (flaw 2) Loathing non-Brotherhood mages and especially traitorous mages of the Brotherhood, (ideal 1) she is determined to prove her worth to the Bonfire despite her lack of spellcasting which (trait 3) she looks down on herself for. (minions 1, 5) When tracking enemies of the Brotherhood she calls upon a trained fire falcon. (treasure 9) She carries 70 pp for bribes and a spell scroll of scorching ray which she can read thanks to her parent's tutoring.

Looking like we will have some interesting baddies to deal with! Very cool, QL, very cool indeed.

Looking over at magic items as well, do you mind if I tinker a bit? I think I'm the only one that rolled randomly here, and while I love that it helped inspire the backstory and flesh out Kaniel's history, I'm also a little ho-hum about having a small handful of one-shot items (low-level scrolls and a potion) next to things like marvelous lamps, endless decanters, and swords of oblivion, lol.

I have to say, I'm looking hard at Ankabut's Sword of Wounding and then staring deeply at that Sun Blade ... But I'm also trying to keep the rather Druidic feel of Kaniel's background as an al-Badia as well. Though I think I could make a super holy sword of holiness work as well.

A sword made of the desert's burning sun!

I was looking at that too, and the flametongue, but both of those swords mess stealth up pretty bad. :)

Feel free to make creative revisions on your magic items (or whatever else) and let me know what you come up with. I do suggest keeping at least one druidic scroll since that is part of your character's background trait granting him the ability to read druidic scrolls; maybe a parting gift from someone sympathetic in the House of Nisr?

I think I'll keep some of the scrolls, yeah: They're a pretty groovy feature to have, honestly.

Also, just alerting you all that I and Foxbytes will be away at PAX starting on Thursday, 01/26, and unlikely to be able to post until about Monday, 01/30 at Earliest.

Enjoy PAX! My friends used to go pretty regular, always had great stories from the convention. :)
