D&D 5E 5E Survivor - 5th Edition Survives! [+]

4e committed the sin of not being what people expected. If you order a hamburger and you get served pizza, you’re going to be unhappy, even if you love pizza. It’s not that pizza isn’t good, it’s just not what you were expecting or in the mood for.

I say this not to disparage 4e, which I love, and not to say it isn’t D&D, which it is. Rather, I say it to acknowledge that 4e just didn’t resonate with a lot of folks who had an idea about what D&D was, who were put off when what the new edition of D&D wasn’t that.
Yep, this too. There is a case for subverting expectations sometimes, just as there is for matching the expectations people have. Too much of either way, is likely going to cause problems.

Sad to see the most innovative and transparent edition defeated, but I will now throw my votes behind the most unifying and all-encompassing edition: at least with 5E, I could easily get a full table of players every time.

My introduction to DnD. I am still fond of the Gazeteer series that described the known world of Mystara. Colored hex maps were all the rage at the time!

There is nothing inherently wrong with 5e. But in a contest for survival, its gotta go to an edition that enjoys a renaissance movement almost 40 years later, no? OSR!

Sad to vote down B/X as I have distinct memories of the excitement of buying the red box with my mom at the long defunct Child World. But Survivor doesn't have time for tears...

The aesthetic of 1E is unmatched in terms of feeling like some eldritch tomes in themselves and the 1E DMG remains the best DMG of any edition.

EDIT: Corrected for OB1's simultaneous posting.

Was just perusing the Rules Cyclopedia last night. Some mighty fine stuff in there. Even ported a nuance or two over to my beloved 1e. But it stands in the way, so down it must go.

I cannot say much about B/X. I started with the BECMI revision, so perhaps my best praise is it allowed an easy to access entry point to the game?

Cheers :)
