Thanks for adding Jacobson @CleverNickName ! Hated to ask so late, but realized that I am shockingly unknowledgeable about the artists of D&D. I didn't ask for Erik Olson, who's image in the spoiler below is still one of my oldest memories of D&D, having discovered it in the 2e PHB in 1989. Every time I think of starting to play this game, I remember this image.

Frank Frazetta is the GOAT.

I recall stories of publishing houses would also go to his home, and ask if there was any artwork of his they can use. Anything would do, as they would find a novel to which they could use it on.

And if you look at alot of the original Conan Covers, that was Frazetta!
