D&D 5E 5E Wishlists!

Mercurius

Legend
While it seems that 5E product will be few and far between, at least from Wizards of the Coast, I thought it would be fun to see what people most hope to see. My wishlist:

Worlds of D&D Book
@DnDPhilmont started a thread about this, although I had also mentioned something very similar a few years back. I'd love to see this sort of deluxe book that gives overviews of the entire corpus of D&D worlds with beautiful world maps, perhaps with longer treatments of major settings including regional maps.

Classic Worlds of D&D Gazetteers
I won't be too greedy here and not ask for massive treatments of all the worlds, but how about 100-120 page gazetteers that update the classic settings to 5E? I mean, why not?

A New Setting!
I know, its a long shot, but so what? I'd love to see them go deep into a new setting - with a treatment similar to Golarion for Pathfinder. A living, breathing setting gives life to the game; this is something that 4E lacked, and people longed for with Nerath but never saw.

Sandbox Box(es)
I mentioned this idea in another thread, but imagine this: A deluxe box set detailing a region, with a 96-page location book, a 64-page DM's guide (including adventure hooks), and a 32-page goodies (monsters and treasures) book. Oh yeah, and maps. This would be the alternate approach to the adventure path/story arcs.

The Return of Dragon
Now I'm getting really greedy, but this is a wishlist after all. And yeah, I mean the print version. Call it nostalgia, but I fondly remember getting the magazine in the mail. Sure, I'd often leaf through it in 40 minutes and never pick it up again, but it felt like I was part of a broader D&D community. I realize it isn't a money maker, but it is a community builder, which leads to money making.

Modules!
I'm not talking rules sub-systems; that's fine, but not what I'm getting at. I also don't mean mini-campaigns and adventure paths - again, fine, but what I mean is old school, 1E-style modules. You know, 32 pages and a map on the interior of the cardstock folder. Short and sweet, for a night or two of classic D&D fun.

Splats
I was tempted to exclude them, but still think they have their place. Two ideas come to mind. One is similar to Paizo - less is more, quality over quantity, etc. Maybe one or two books a year, each richly thematic - not just stats. So a Manual of the Planes, for instance, would not only include rules on planar hopping, but a detailed section on Sigil. Oh yeah, how about a new Deities & Demigods to go along with it? But for extra-planar monsters too.

The second idea is some kind of "splat annuals" or compilations. I *don't* want to see a series of Complete or Power books. Rather, publish new races, classes, feats etc in contextually relevant places - like in adventures and setting books, but then gather them all together in an annual every year or so (alternately these can just stay online and never be published in print).

And what about you?

Mercurius hit pretty much all of what would be on my list.

The "splat annual" is a good idea.

I wouldn't mind seeing some classic 0e and 1e modules updated/converted to 5e, but tied in better with their particular setting. Isle of Dread, for example, could tie in with Mystara/Known World. Night's Dark Terror could be one of those sandbox boxes you're talking about. And so on.

My wishlist for 5E is:

Revived Settings
I'm hoping we'll see the return of campaign world favorites ranging from Greyhawk through Dragonlance, Birthright and the like. FR can be interesting in how in-depth it can be, but sometimes it just doesn't scratch the right itch.

New Settings
WotC got a lot of setting ideas years ago when it settled on Eberron - it'd be nice to see what else could have come out from the campaign setting search or just from the current minds of the designers. In fact, I think it'd be a really nice touch if they had each of their designers put out a "personal" campaign mini-setting (or full blown settings) as a sort of "how-to" manual - Campaigncraft, so to speak.

The (X) Edition Guide to D&D
A book or series of books that takes you through adapting 5E to the various rulesets. Conversion hints not only for player abilities, monsters and items, but for adventures from the various editions as well.

Monthly Adventure Path
WotC had Dungeon before they deep-sixed it. Paizo's made quite an enterprise off their adventure paths. It'd be nice to see WotC either license someone to do a regular 5E subscription of adventure paths or have them pick it up and do it themselves. Maybe set one adventure path to a campaign world - Dragonlance for say the first half of a year, Birthright the second half, Ravenloft the next and so on.

My wishlist would include the Greyhawk setting - it is the only setting I really like (aside from Birthright, which is more niche) and think it would need a fair bit of elaboration and updating - not just a 100 page overview.

The other thing I would like to see is more dedicated splat/book support for Advanced 5e. While they did basic 5e really well, I think there is wide open design space with 5e for more complicated rules, classes and monsters. How well this space gets filled is going to greatly influence how much long term interest and investment I have in 5e.

I'd love to see a 320-page book of one page dungeons. Now that's a book I'd pay $50 for.

This is very close and it is free, http://www.onepagedungeon.info/entrance

An annual contest of one page dungeons, and they collect them and host the files, very hit or miss but you can find some real gems.

What I would like to see in about 5 years is 6th edition, I like 5e but it could use more balance and solid math to make me happier. In the meantime, I guess support for my two favorite worlds Eberron and Birthright, good rules for monsters as PC races, a big book of interesting traps and encounter areas.

Sandbox Box(es)

Yep, sounds good.

The Return of Dragon

I can't see this ever happening - once issue #360 failed to appear on the newsstands, I think there was no going back - but if it did, I'd probably subscribe.

Again, I can't see this happening in this form, but I could see a compilation of such adventures being produced (that is, a 192-page book containing 5 such adventures plus pre-gens/maps/whatever). That would be cool.

The (X) Edition Guide to D&D

It would be good to see these. Though I doubt I'd buy any - perhaps the 3e one, but if I wanted 3e then I'd probably just play that.

Monthly Adventure PathWotC had Dungeon before they deep-sixed it. Paizo's made quite an enterprise off their adventure paths. It'd be nice to see WotC either license someone to do a regular 5E subscription of adventure paths...

Yep, that could be cool. It will be interesting to see if the current campaign arcs do indeed serve as a replacement for monthly APs, or whether they end up being shorter 'events' for groups that use them.

The main thing I'm probably looking for is something like the 3e Unearthed Arcana or Pathfinder's Ultimate Campaign - a toolbox of modules for tweaking the game, possibly just for a campaign, in order to sprinkle it with a different flavour from the core. I think adding a "side dish" to the regular "Orc & Pie" mode of playing has the scope to make for a very flexible game system.

I would also like to see a conversion of Eberron as soon as possible. I only need the mechanics, but I do 'need' those mechanics for things like Shifters and Kalashtar and Dragonmarks as soon as possible. (And I'd rather not have to buy half a dozen books across the span of two years to get the set!)

If WotC would make one or more of the story bibles available in some form, that would be great - it would be very helpful to see an extended example of how a campaign takes shape. Though I appreciate it might not be possible or practical to do so, for various reasons.

It's early in the morning. I haven't finished my first cup of coffee, so maybe I missed it.

Am I actually the first person to say Psionic Handbook? Because, weird.

As for splats, I like what I think is happening: every few (8?) months, we'll get a new book of character options for all classes and races that is built around a theme. A definite "no" vote on the subject of splatbooks for each class and race. That way lies madness. And not the cool kind that hangs out in an abbey with some fun playing cards.

Thaumaturge.

I'm not picky on how I want my options delivered, but I do want more options. Always.

I REALLY want to see more subclasses. I'd love to see a non raging barbarian that gets some benefit from destroying magic items ala the Unearthed Arcana, as well as a Thief Acrobat subclass.

Also Birthright, all day erryday.

I'd love to see a 320-page book of one page dungeons. Now that's a book I'd pay $50 for.

Well, yeah. That'd make it $0.15 per dungeon. Why not just ask for a million dollars, a pony, and a castle in Wales while you're at it? :)

My wishlist is really simple - some really good adventure support, so I get to give the thing some serious trying-out. Then, once I'm used to it, we can talk about other stuff.

Asking for a print Dragon magazine is beyond asking for them to create product, and is into changing the fabric of the universe. Going into print periodicals is asking for economic losses, these days.

I wouldn't mind it if someone offered me a seat in a game, instead of my having to do all the heavy lifting. But, see above around not asking to change the Universe :)
