Hello all, I heard a rumour that it is possible to purchase, if you're lucky enough to have a Wizards of the Coast official store nearby, to pick up, say, the Starter Set on July 3rd vs July 15th, with a similar advance purchase date compared with online for the other books as well.

I've asked my Encounters DM (I both DM and play 5th edition in Encounters as well as in a home game), but he wasn't aware either way.

So is this rumour True, or untrue? We're dying to read the final rules over here.

Thanks!

Actually, you can purchase them three weeks early, but the offer is only good at the official Wizards of the Coast chain stores. They'll have a special offer, too -- a print copy of the D&D Basic Rules with each D&D Starter Set purchase.

OK, fun's over -- this rumor is *not* true but thalmin has posted accurate information below.

great!

So, tuesday June 24th is when we should all run down to our local stores? I'm actually more dying to see the Basic D&D PDF because that will likely be more applicable to upgrading our characters to the final rules in my campaign, so thanks for the info, you just made my day!

First I heard of this. Sauce?

What are "official chain stores" though? Any place you can do encounters? (there are a dozen of those by me)? Will it be the whole Basic game in print or just CharGen? I'd love a print copy, so any info you have would be great.

I believe on the day they announced the dates, Liz Schuh (in an interview) and Mike Mearls (via Twitter or Legends and Lore I think?) mentioned that any store that is part of the Wizards Play Network would have the books two weeks early. You can find one near you, or check to see if your FLGS is part of it, at:http://locator.wizards.com/

I can't seem to find the sources for this, though.

I hadn't heard about getting it three weeks early anywhere.

Man, I miss I those. I bought whole packs of old TSR-era dice for a dollar. Gave them as gifts even.

I wasnt gaming then but I did pickup the Dragon Magazine archive CDs there. A great purchase.

i have heard that 5e books would be available early at premiere stores but nothing official. You should ask the people that run the store.

What Wizards announced to the retailers at the ACD Distributors Open House was that the b&m WPN stores (those that ran sanctioned WotC organized play) would be able to receive and sell the new D&D products 11 days early, 12 days for the Starter in recognition of the July 4 holiday. I attended that announcement.

Well that is official enough for me.
