D&D General 6E But A + Thread

If a designer does this, they're an a#$&@%e, plain and simple.

Do you think I don't know what it's like to be treated like a second class citizen? Come the frick on, Dave. I'm a 4e fan. 5e, and especially its fans, will take every opportunity to remind me that I'm a second-clsss citizen now. I wouldn't inflict that on my worst enemy.
Do you not see that is what you are suggesting? At least that is how I see it. Unless you have a draft you can share I will not believe it otherwise.

For me, my dream 6e would include...
  • Asynchronous class design: playing different classes should feel radically different and fun in different ways
  • Moving almost all damaging abilities to the martial classes (spellcasters would still buff, impact the environment, curse enemies, etc)
  • Getting rid of the monk, and making it a variation of the Fighter class
  • Replacing barbarian, ranger and druid with a wilderness-focused class that could go combat, exploration, or magic based
  • Introducing an intelligence-based expert class that could include the artificer, the commander, and the Psion
  • Having enemies be fun, easy, and interesting to run
  • Combining everything into 10 levels
  • Including explicit rules support for different versions of D&D: an exploration focused campaign, a campaign based on running a tavern, a political intrigue campaign...
Those are just some ideas off the top of my dome! Obviously this would be a sizeable departure but I would find it fun.

While this is an interesting idea,I am wondering how exactly one would overhaul the combat system in order to make these inherent support casters feel just as important and impactful as the damage dealers.

You can do that ready.

Direct damage kinda sucks. Just don't pick those spells. Its a better option right now.
