A Barbarian with style!

Here's an idea I was working on.

A Zen Barbarian.

Basicly, his Rage is a 'Bullet Time', where he slows down, and can do more calculations, move faster, shoot at the right spots.

The quirk? He's a halfling. And an archer. Give him a Mighty Bow (And when he gets up in levels, Monkey Grip for that Longbow).

With that decent Wisdom, you could give him Track and max out his Wilderness Lore.

I wrote up but never played a barbarian who was bought with 32 point buy -- he had an Int of 13. He was human, too. That gave me a lot of skill points to play with. I ended up not maxing ranks but spreading them out over a ton of skills, so that I had this barbarian renaissance man who could swim, ride, climb, jump, track with wilderness lore, hear the bad guys with listen, and intimidate when he had to.

I wrote up his rage as him channeling the spirits of his ancestors.

You've got the low intelligence, so that same thing wouldn't work for you, but going with Track and then building up your movement skills (swim, wilderness lore, climb, and jump if you're a human), you'd be a pretty cool woodsman warrior.

But yeah, if you're in a hack & slash campaign, you'd probably wanna just head for the Power Attack route and be done with it.

If you want a "bullet-time" Zen-Barb type character, check out the Sohei in Oriental Adventures. It is definitely my fave OA class, and it's 100% Zen Barbarian. :)

I like the idea of a rogue/barbarian. I think the Zen Barbarian idea is a little too paradoxical for me. Zen is complete awareness and focus. Rage is the opposite of that. But maybe I'm just stuck on the words; maybe you're taking things more loosely, which is fine.

NEW IDEA:
Barbarian/Ranger, heading toward the Windrider PrC. The only reason for multiclassing as a ranger is that Knowledge (Nature) is not a class skill for Barbarians, and it is needed for the PrC. Would it be better to just take Knowledge as a cross-class skill, in order to get the second Rage and second Uncanny Dodge abilities at fourth and fifth levels?

BTW, does anyone know what the preferred class for a wild elf is? That might make a difference for me.

An idea I really wanted to try, stolen from a breif look at NwN, is the brawler barbarian. High strength, two weapon fighting and spiked gauntlets. A character devoted to grappling and beating the crud out of people with his bare hands.

Would probably work well with your tarzan style examples given above.

If you use the Monster Manual it is Sorcerer.

But other settings might be different. In the Kalamar setting for instance the favored class for the Wild Elf is Barbarian.

This might fall outside the character concept you are going for, candidus, but I've been thinking about making a character at some point who is modeled after John Coffey from Stephen King's The Green Mile.

I haven't finalized the idea yet, but I was thinking about making him a Barbarian/Cleric focused on healing and strength. He would have a fairly low Int, but high Wis and be strong as an ox. I would have him latch onto whichever character in the party he deemed to be most "good" and do whatever that character told him to (so long as it still seemed relatively "good").

He would be kind to everyone unless he somehow saw them as doing harm to the innocent but would then fly into a Rage. Later, he would probably feel guilty about this.

I'm still playing with the idea to figure out if he is playable as a long term character or not, but I thought I'd toss the idea into the mix.

I've had the idea for a barbarian who is basically locked in childhood, unable to comprehend things as an adult might, stuck in a toddler mindest...

...a friend of mine runs an orcish Barbarian/Shaman (from OA). The shaman's martial arts feats grant him some brawling powers, and he's got a spell-storing axe.

Spell-storing axe + inflict x wounds + rage + fury domain = yyyyyeeeoooow!
