A bored DM is a dangerous DM...

No no no no no.....its when the players start talking amongst themselves and let the DM get bored IN THE MIDDLE OF A GAME that things get dangerous. ;) Trust me. My players have done that to me...start talking about something im not interested in and so i call out for a spot check....

How far have you gone to satisfy your curiousity about the flexibility or exploitability of the rules? And has this ever actually shown up in your games?
Very little curiosity for that sort of things.

When I grow bored (bored of the game of course), I tend to abandon the campaign. This happened with my last tabletop D&D campaign two years ago.

Word. When I get bored, characters start to die in horrible ways.

Do you have a gaming group ... or a cult?

Yes.

Heheh. Too funny.

See, in my game, when I say "this is is the way it works in this campaign" that is how it works. The rulebooks don't tell me, and they don't tell the players. I do. The moment I buy the book, I own it, and I can change whatever I like about it, for the enjoyment of myself, and those who I game with. So, in a way, that is a cult, in the most strict sense of the word.

Game Mastery or Arbitrary Play?

That is what being a Dungeon Master is... the term is supposed to imply a mastery of the game, and its mechanics, and the situations presented to the players, rather than something else.
Then why flaunt the rules? By your definition, anyone can be a good DM ... so long as they ignore the mechanics and just make everything up. That doesn't seem very masterful to me. :\

Ah, I see you are a fan of the Rick James school of DMing ....

"The rules are your servant, not your master" is a good guide to being a good GM, IMO.
