You've been travelling to the east for several days now, and you believe you will arrive at the lake to which you have been summoned in a fairly short time. Off in the distance, you see a flying form circling about as if looking for prey. It seems to be some sort of humanoid winged creature, with a stoney complexion.

Charlarn squints as he looks at the creature. "I wonder what that is. It doesn't look like any bird I've ever seen before." He readies his crossbow, just in case.

"um. I don't much care for the look of that. Perhaps we could seek some shelter until it passes..." Iggy looks around for a grove of trees or other cover large enough for the party and his pony. He also loads his crossbow.

Zack is much relieved when they finally get out of the mountains. Seeing the flying creature, he gets a club from under his cloack and readies it for throwing in case the critter try attacking them.

The group decides to avoid the flying menace, and has little trouble doing so. Travelling onward, you eventually reach the shores of a very large lake nestled at the base of the mountains.

"I wonder how we do that. Can anyone see any sign of them? Maybe there's a boat around here."

"Don't fight the bear, don't fight the flying thing, get eaten by your vegetables, no naked bundling...." Sara's normal agressive cheerfulness has been significantly blunted by the trip, but she perks up a little at the sight of the lake. "Do merfolk rescue drowning swimmers? I could jump in and flounder a bit and see if anyone comes to help."

"If you're lucky, one of those demonic fish will come by. Then you'd have a fight on your hands. Can anyone here swim? I never learned."

"Right. The merfolk said something like this:

Seems a small community of Merfolk need the assistance of a party of adventurers. Some sort of demonic taint is spreading throughout their lake, turning the fish vicous and deadly. They want me to hold on to these pearls and to give up to one fifth of the amount to any adventurer returning to me with a letter indicating they've succeeded in the mission... that looks to be about 1,500 gold upon completion. They want adventurers able to walk on land, since they think that a Merrow with some sort of magic powers is responsible, and the Merrow move about on dry land a lot better than the merfolk.

"Since we can't just walk on into the water, what say we start to circle the lake. We'll probably find a village of some sort who could tell us how to contact the merfolk. Or we'll find something else. Perhaps the Merrow. What is a Merrow, anyway?"
