A Comical Character

Squnk

First Post
I was hoping to get some help on how to make a good comedic character. In my group everyone has their niche and things get boring from time to time in terms of the game play. I was hoping to mix things up by making a character that is the comic relief and since this forum has helped me out so many times before I turn to you guys for help once again.

I'm looking for anything that can help this character become so much more than just a powerhouse, I want this character to be funny. If any one has any suggestions for any races, classes, feats, flaws, or just mild annoyances that could make this fun, please do help. But please keep in mind I do still want to be able to atleast be a little useful.

I know you guys have a great since of humor, thank you in advanced.

I should mention this is for a PC.

Chicken Infested Commoner/Ur Priest

This. One hundred thousand times this.

My most recent character was a halfling unseen seer who was very wealthy. His favorite thing to do was giving tavern keepers enough money to convince them to name their taverns after him. I feel like halflings in general have a tendency to be funny guys/jokers.

The spell/spell-like ability Prestidigitation is your friend. If you have a cooperative DM, you can use it for all kinds of practical jokes.

If you don't want to play a Wizard, gnomes have it as a racial ability--along with speak with animals, dancing lights, and ghost sound. These are all good for in-game pranks.

\I can't believe I just recommended someone play a gnome. :-S

I think the direction you choose will depend upon the type of comedy you're going for. Do you want your character to just be someone who cracks jokes and is generally jovial? Are you looking for him to be a physical comic who gets into pratfalls and runs into objects? Or verbal comedy, where he misunderstands what people mean, or purposefully confounds people in some way? Will you be a satirist? Do you prefer absurdist comedy?

Once you figure out HOW you'd like to make people laugh, it may help you decide what slant to put on your portrayal.
