A dragon losing a level

In the last game (I am the DM), PCs have killed some consorts of a White Wyrm, but could not kill the wyrm itself and lost a PC. Now, players are discussing if they should retreat or continue fighting.

If they retreat, the White Wyrm may resurrect one of his consorts, because, unknown to the PCs, there is a Staff of Life in the wyrm's treasure horde.

If this happens, the resurrected dragon (possibly a Mature Adult White Dragon), will lose a level. How should I handle this?

She may lose a HD for sure and related stats such as saves, BAB, special ability save DCs, will be lowered. In regard to other stats, how shall I adjust? Will her casting ability as a sorcerer be lowered? How about other abilities based on her age category?

Yeah. But 3HDs per one age category. What I am talking about is a case when a mature adult white dragon lose one level due to resurrection.

I would just subtract a hit dice and remove the benefits that come with it(attack bonus,saves , armor class, spell resistance etc)
I wouldnt chance its age category.

For ease and speed of gaming, why not just treat it as a permanent negative level?

Under RAW it just loses the Hit Dice and all associated abilities (BAB, saves, skills, DCs of certain special abilities). Age categories are not locked to HD so its abilities-by-age category should stay the same.

As for the sorcerer casting I'd lower it by 1 level. That's a bit more debatable but it seems appropriate that a dragon that has permanently lost 1 level from energy draining should have the same casting ability than one that has 1 negative level.
