I had the most aweful dream last night, and it was one of those dreams that seems completely real until you wake up.
I dreamed that Ryan Dancey was informed by the bigwigs at WotC that the whole open gaming movement and the d20 license deal had proven to be a failure and was costing Hasbro millions. So "without apology or warning" (I remember that quote) they yanked the whole concept. Every publisher was ordered to cease production of their products, and all d20 materials on the shelves were to be destroyed.
I was very distressed. It's one thing to be a fan of a company that occasionally has problems that you try to put a positive spin on, but this was indefensible. If I ever wanted to be associated with this website again and be involved in the community, this would be its death knell. Plus somehow in my mind this meant that Master Tools would never come out.
But even more distressed was Morrus. I never saw him in my dream, I was trying to find him but he was never where I was searching. I did hear that he had just decided to give up on the site, sell the server, etc. And part of his distress was the fact that Natural 20 Press's Wild Magic supplement was very close to coming out and now it would never see the light of day.
At some point I remember smashing a bunch of metal things, bending and breaking them up. In my mind I was thinking I was in the offices of Dragon Magazine but it didn't look like any office I've ever seen, it looked like a burned out building at midnight with flames in the background.
I think the source of my distress was a) getting a sneak peek at Wild Magic, and b) my concern over the fate of Master Tools. Or maybe it was those banana muffins Mrs Noah whipped up just before bed.
So .... what do you think my dream means?
