A Fae secret worth killing over?

Hrm... the secret of immortality, at the cost of the immortality of the Fae?

Humanity wants it? Check.
The Fae don't want it to happen? Check.
It has the potential to be a world shaking event? Check.
Can I think of all sorts of fun things to go with this? Oh yeah. Definitely check.

Why, though, does Prometheus want to give away this secret at the cost of his life?

Because he tires of immortality?

Because he has lost that which he cares about anyway?
The love of his life is dead/dying?
Because immortality is actually destroying the essence of the Fey, although on a completely different timescale?
Because he chooses to ignore the prophecy, and is trying to do the right thing by humanity? Or wants to lengthen the life of his love, who is a mortal?
All of the above?

Combine that, with this:

Or, would the boon of immortality sap the drive from humanity, their need to strive, claim territory because they now have all the time in the world? Since many campaigns are humanocentric, they tend to be the bulwark against the other aggressive and high birth rate races. If humans gain immortality and become laconic...
Prometheus believes that before gaining immortality themselves, the fae were more aggressive and purposeful, instead of the lackadaisical, fickle creatures they are now. He blames immortality for their general purposelessness. So in order to save the faerie race, he's going to kill them, by passing off their immortality to humanity. It is his belief that humanity will then sink into a laconic, immortal haze, while the fae rise up to previously unknown heights of greatness.

Naturally, most other fae think this concept is patently absurd, the ravings of a madman.

Recommended:

Faeries, by Bastion Press ($5), and read the "True Mistji" entry in The Complete Minions (also by BP). The second is available at the ENWGS, the first from BastionPress.com.

Also, as an alternate, PromethePuck might also be giving away the secrets to passing the Fearie Gates, most probably as the spell in the first book, and the secrets to navigating the Faerie realms, thus opening them to tramplage by Humans and other mortal races.

I really like this idea. In fact, this is a fantastic idea. It'll fit in perfectly! Thanks Pendragon!

Hrm... I've heard good things about Faeries before, and for only $5 I may definitely have to check that out.

Lord Pendragon, that's great.

Mr. Draco, make sure you can have fey assassins trying to kill him. That helps heighten the tension, and lets the PCs act as bodyguards for a cause they may really care about.
