A Fallen Angel

"If that is not mercy, however foolishly given, I do not know what is."

She smiles - a twisted expression that seems to curdle whatever remains of your last meal in your stomach, "I would never have offered you quarter. And yet, you see this is a flaw - a taint upon my soul, despite the fact that you would claim to have been no more merciful. You had the opportunity to take me alive. You did. But don't imagine for a second that that act of feigned mercy seperates us in anyway. You are predators who believe you are prey."

"You have come to believe in your own infallibility, haven't you? Of course, you should never have offered me quarter - for the same reason that neither I nor Nightgrove would have offered it to you. You are a killer. As are we. We kill - we murder for pleasure and call it 'war'."

"You call it war. We are not so weak to require such an emotional crutch. We murder because we must. Because it is who we are. Because those we kill are undeserving of whatever spark of life has chosen to rest in their mortal shells. These people cannot survive without someone like you - so why let them? Let them die - it is all that they have earned."
"They would survive without me, as yours will survive without you. Tain will still kill indiscriminatly all who are not of your kind, and my queen will still fight for what is ours- life. War will still rage on both sides.
"We were prey once. Falling to everything your master commanded. We are no longer prey, as you said we are now predators. But unlike you we prey only on those who have wronged us, killed those we loved, tortured those we call friend. Yet still we have offered quarter."
"What would you do if in that room we fell instead. If instead I stood before you chained. What would you do then? What would you offer?"

"You took a prisoner - only a fool would confuse that with offering quarter. I am useful to you. That is the only reason I live. I am aware of it. Are you?"

"Were you captured, enlightenment would not have been offered, but forced. My master does not waste potential allies, unless he must."

"You can not even now see why I would offer you quarter, that is the truth that will be denied to you. You live to be given a choice.
You have been given quarter. You were spared when you could no longer defend yourself. Your life was spared when we could have taken it, and even now you still live when most want you dead. What knowledge do you hold that keeps you alive?"

"The knowledge is apparently what you seek. Had you believed I had none, I would be dead. Quarter is not offered after a foes has fallen, but before combat is joined. You pulled an unconscious warrior from the field and call it mercy - but it is merely the capture of a prisoner."

"Yet you would not have done so, instead killing your foe. Believe whatever you wish as the shadows have addled your vision it seems. You give no quarter and feel nothing for mercy. Your soul has turned as black as Mordred's."

Justice snorts, again and mumbles, "Like Mordred has a soul."

"My heart may be black, but it is pure - untainted by self illusion. You imagine your words as an insult, but they merely reflect how far above you - all of you - I have come to be."

Justice glares directly at her. "And that's why you're in the cage and we're out here, right?"

Shaking her head, she steps closer to the caged animal. "If you were so far above us, why are you subservient to the whims of a man that must shroud himself in shadow? You may believe yourself superior to us... but the fact remains that we are winning this war despite awe-inspiring odds. I hardly think you have room to brag."

The_Universe said:
"You have won battles, yes. But you are losing this war."
"Once again I ask: Is that why you're behind those bars like an animal? Because you're winning? Or is it because you and your "army" have underestimated the power of the Circle of the Phoenix?" She smirks for a moment, "Or maybe it's because you're finally coming to realize that those that fight for the Light will always win. Maybe not in this life time, but we will."

"That thought scares you doesn't it, you caged, helpless kitten."
