A Feast for Crows

From GRRMs webpage:

YES, I'M STILL WORKING ON IT. HONEST.
Well, 2003 has come to an end... but sad to say, A FEAST FOR CROWS hasn't.

I'm getting closer, though, page by bloody page. Yesterday I finished another chapter, the forty-first (though I do move these chapters around as I write, so it probably won't be the forty-first when FEAST is finally published). It's a Davos chapter, his second in the volume.

I now have 911 manuscript pages in something very close to final draft form. I also have about eight additional chapters in fragmentary form, a couple of them fairly close to completion. But there's more that will be needed after that. I don't believe in saying, "Okay, I've got X number of pages, that's enough, I'll end the book." Each volume is a part of the overall story, but also needs its own beginning, middle, climax, and end to make for a satisfying read. As I have said here before, I am writing as fast as I can, but my first priority is to make the novel as good as it be.

The moment the book is done I will announce it here. The instant. The second. So if you visit this website, and this notice is still in place, it means I'm still writing. Various websites and bookshops have announced various publication dates, but until the book is actually finished and delivered, they are all pure guesswork.

No one really knows when A FEAST FOR CROWS will be finished, or when it will be published. Especially not me. When I do, know, I'll tell you here. For now, though, the only answer must remain, "As soon as possible."

Once again, I'd like to thank all my readers for their patience and support.

At least he is moving the story forward. I heard the last two Wheel of Time books did NOTHING to advance the story. I also heard the next WoT book will be a prequel  all the fans want is the story to continue, and he is doing a prequel.

No comparison between Martin and Jordan anymore. One series went from excellent to half baked to Jordan has a house payment due. Martin still cares about his story, whether you like his story or not you can't fault him for not being dedicated to it. He does update his website and occasionally post chapters there for people to read.

Martin may be taking a while but he's a consumate story teller. I have a lot more patience for the man than I do for Jordan at this point. Meantime I'd say in vest in Robert Holdstock's latest outing with Tor Publishing. You'll not be dissappointed.

Martin originally intended to write a trilogy. After "A Game of Thrones" became a bestseller, he expanded the story to become six novels. He has written three of them so far based on his original story, but the fourth novel was stuff he never intended to write so its taking him a while.

He's been working on "A Feast for Crows" for almost four years now. But in that time he has also been doing lots of celebrity stuff, going to fan conventions, writing short stories based on his characters (Dunk + Egg), and so on.

Also, Martin's novels are long, almost as long as two other books.

I would expect "A Feast for Crows" to come out in early 2005.

obNitpick: The official release date of the novel-length New Spring is today. Ergo, it's no longer the 'next book'.

I don't read RJ, so I don't pay attention to the dates.

There's a point past which the iron goes from white-hot back to cherry-red, and it only gets less hot from there. You wait too long, you can strike that iron as hard as you want and ain't nothing gonna happen. I hope Martin finishes at some point in the near future.
