A future based IK 'jack question (okay, maybe a few questions)...

Storyteller01

First Post
Our DS campaign uses IK based magic rules for items and certain robots (the cortex is high end construct intelligence technology). Then I watched Tank Girl, remembered the comics, and got an idea...

'jacks with vehicle chassis'!!

This probably isn't a new idea, so I'm asking for any imput on this. How has it worked for you? Was it hard to convert the Warcaster to a type of pilot? Was there anything unexpected power gamers used (I'm thinking that using a modified APC for a 'jack while carrying four more into battle might hurt a bit...)? Did it hurt your campaign at all?

Chassis = body frame.

Tank Girl's tank had an AI. It was only really evident in the last battle scenes with the BBEG (Don't tell me; you're out of ammo. *tank blinks lights*). It came up more often in the comics.

i get it now

i dont think the Mechanika supplement covers stuff like that
i would have to dig my copy out and check

so what sort of vehickle are you considering making

Campaign's based in a fantasy future setting, so pretty much anything's up for grabs. It's largely dependant on the warcaster (basic robots can handle the labor for much cheaper). I've replaced DS's item creation rules (base D&D) with IK's. I'm trying to figure out what would be the natural progression for mechanika and warjacks in a world with robots, hover vehicles, spacecraft, non-magical energy weapons, and so on.

Biggest problem willl be maintaining contact with several bonded 'jacks. Vehicle combat in DS covers anything from 50 to 5,000 feet per inch on the board.

Radios might help with verbal commands, but mental communication is out by the standard rules.

DS being Dragonstar right.....I have the core book, imperial supply and hte races books is all for Dragonstar....hmmm....I would have to dig up my IK books again, forget the control range in the RPG version vice Warmachine ( I LOVE Iron Kingdoms), but perhaps something that boosts the mental range essentially, to allow for battlefield control on a more 'modern' scale

And possibly building the arcane converter into the 'jacks cockpit. Even without a steam engine to power it, it seems a bit bulky to make it part of the flight suit.

I believe the control range is 30 feet, or 100 feet on a COncentration check, but I'm not exactly sure on this.

Perhaps some knid of hive mind implants for built into multiple 'jacks? Commanding one mentally sends the message to all in the 'squad', so to speak?

if you have the mech oriented book from Bastion Press..they have a arcane arc node allowing for captains to cast spells through the 'mech'. Sometihng similar to that, being the equivalent to a magical GPS / Radio Control unit
