A Game of Thrones RPG

Just finished reading The Hedge Knight and The Sworn Sword. Both very good, but not as good as the main books.

You do get to see House Fossoway split into its Red Apple and Green Apple branches, which was a question I didn't mind being answered after wondering why they were split like that in the main books. There's some other interesting bits scattered throughout, and of course, you get to learn a lot about being a hedge knight as opposed to a sworn sword (which is merely a hedge knight in the service of a landed knight or noble house).

By the way, I read that the upcoming Game of Thrones RPG will use material from both these short novels.

Don't know about Gen Con. I think you can buy a copy of the TriStat rules from Guardians of Order for $10 as a sample but am not sure. I've had no experience or interest in it, but in all fairness, I know absolutely nothing about it. I just find my friends and I rarely have time to learn new game systems that aren't D&D/d20-related in our old age... :o

The deluxe limited edition of the A Game of Thrones RPG from Guardians of Order features both d20 and TriStat rules (it comes out first in late August with a bonus GM's Screen and exclusive George R.R. Martin interview and costs $99.95). A cheaper d20 rules only version comes out in October from Sword & Sorcery. A cheaper TriStat rules only version comes out in December from Guardians of Order.

You can actually get them for free at Drivethru RPG (just click the banner above). Tri Stat DX is in the "Free Stuff" section.

It's a good system. Very flexible.

I'm downloading it now. Thanks for the tip. How does TriStat compare to d20 and which system do you think is a better fit in your opinion for A Game Of Thrones?

As much as folks will likely disagree with me, I think tri-stat is a much better system for making more unique characters than d20. The more tri-stat books I read, the better I like it as a system. I think Game of Thrones will be better served with tri-stat because it is a more character driven game.

At first glance, TriStat looks like GURPS to me. Haven't read it in any detail yet though. Is the GURPS comparison offbase? I loved GURPS point-based character creation for its maximum flexibility but hated combat and everything else rules-wise (too complicated). The GURPS sourcebooks were cool.
