A Gleeful Wager

And that's where I strongly disagree. A real mother-daughter bond can develop at any age and does not need to start from birth. All they need to do is to spend time together and see what happens. 16 is pretty young to start and there is a lot of years left to form a bond.

BUT real love has to be there first. That's the key. Not whether a kid is 16 years old or three hours old.

That's why I believe it's won't as opposed to can't.

So I now wonder who the new faces will be for next season.

I wonder what they'll be using for a primary conflict, if anything.

Well one cast member for next season was just announced and by looking at the role this person will play, you get a hint of at least one major conflict that will play out next season...

John Stamos (the actor formerly, and still, known as "Uncle Jesse from Full House") is joining the cast and will play the role of the dentist that Emma is dating

Oh, I agree that a real relationship can form later. I was just seeing it from what the character has stated, so based on that, I think the issue is that she doesn't think she can (it's in her mind that way because she is stubborn in thinking that to be the case, even though it's not) hence, she won't try because she won't see beyond her single-minded stubbornness/drive.
