A good gift for a Dwarven Cleric of Gond

Tinker Gnome

Adventurer
Hmmm, well the Cleric is eigth level and I was wondering if these were good gifts for inventing a very useful mining invention. A metal crossbow that can store up to fifty bolts in it, the first fifty bolts in it have holy water in them. It can also fold up so it becomes more compact. A +2 Flail, some scrolls of Cure critical wounds and a Lantanese healing kit(+4 on Heal checks). Does all that sounds good to any of you?

Off-hand they sound find as general gifts. Though I'm no expert on Gond, I never really pictured him as a healing god, so I'm not sure how pertinent the scrolls might be (of course, he might have Healing in his domains for all I know...as mentioned, not an expert).

As for the crossbow, it depends on how much you want technology/advanced technology to play a role in the game. As a suggestion, since that is a very nice ability if it can be used as a free action like the Repeating Crossbow. I think 50 bolts is a little unrealistic, especially if it can be collapsed (not sure how to collapse a clip of 50 bolts).

I'd suggest just using the Repeating Crossbow in the DMG with perhaps a larger clip of bolts (perhaps 10 instead of 50). This method gives you at least a little more of a RAW gift and basis for it while allowing you to still give him something even better a little later on. The holy water is a fine idea, especially for a cleric. As for folding it up, I can see it done, just not sure what rules effect it might have. Perhaps something capable of being able to be broken down so it could be hidden on several PCs and then put back together after slipping through some guards after claiming the PCs weapons (as they always seem to do sooner or later).

Just my two cents.

Gond is all about crafting and innovation - healing isn't really his bag.

How about a big hammer of some kind, and maybe some kind of little (size tiny) Gondsmen that can scout about or act as helpers for crafting.

He May not be a god of healing, but that does not mean he does not grant his Clerics healing spells, but I do see what you all mean. Hmmm,I gues I can reduce the number of bolts it holds to ten, and I will consider the Gondsmen idea. :)

If you went the crossbow route I would certainly consider reducing the number of bolts it can hold down to 10 or so. 50 just sounds like a rather large number. As for the folding bit, if the bolts were reduced to 10 or so, I might still consider letting it be a folding one. But I would think it difficult to get it much smaller than the number of bolts it holds (unless of course it requires special ammunition too...).

Yep,I said I will reduce it to ten. Maybe I will make up some cool divine spells with a Gondish theme to them so that he can have something permanent(not able to be destroyed) to give him. :)
