A Halfling's Tears - Past Memories of Adventures

Dungeons and Dragon adventures from my past have been rather exciting and deadly. Of the ones that come to my mind; there comes the tale of the halfling, Lily: A Halfling's Tears. In this particular adventure, I was not the DM for change, but was a paladin of Sune. All of us, five in total, were 11th level as I recall. I was an Aasimar, and then there was the Half-Elven Priestess of Sune, a Halfling rogue, the Dwarf fighter, and the Human mage. In a tavern, I forget exactly where, we listened to a tale from Lily about a red dragon that had wiped out her village...including her family. There has been rumors of such dragon attacks in the area, and we were glad to be of service. Sadly, none of us succeeded high enough in our sense motive checks...being the rogue and cleric to find anything unusual with Lily's story, or her offer to take us to the dragon's lair. Thus, off we went to do what we thought was a good deed, but treachery would soon find us.

Lily would not go near the mouth of the cave, and we all figured we knew why. So, up we went armed to the teeth, and quite sure we were ready to destroy the foul dragon. What happened next was stunning! The dragon was waiting for us instead. No sooner had we stepped in did she come swooping down from her hidden area at the top of the mountain. Blocking off the cave with her massive form; she raked the entire company with fire. The mage was the first to fall as he was at the back of the group and closest to the entrance. The rogue was not much better off. The rest of us turned to fight, but by that point it was truly in vain. Before the priestess could heal the rogue; she was slain next in a massive set of critical strikes from our dragon nemesis. Before I knew it, I was facing her alone, already bloodied, my companions slain by treachery, and hopelessly in peril. Though I fought valiantly, wounded the dragon a couple of times rather nicely...in the end it was too little too late.

All from the tears of a halfling named Lily!

That adventure still makes me laugh and shake my head at times!
