Reponses from people who have already decided a priori that they're staying with 3.5e -- those people have no business posting in this forum anymore, because they're not discussing 4e in any useful sense.

This is really is so very wrong.

Discussions in this forum like the fate of Paizo and other third party publishers would be of keen interest to folks principally interested in sticking with 3.5.

What happens when someone who loves the new warlord decides that he doesn't, say, like how initiative works? Do we boot him?
If that someone has something valid to say about the initiative system, then the comments are welcome. If the comments are meaningless anti-4E rants, then they are not. That's the point of the thread.

You do address this later in your post, but I don't think anyone was suggesting anything similar to the above.

Lless than a 3rd of people want warlord, according to the big poll. Not even one in three, and that's before the poll was rigged in warlord's favour (anecdotally).

However, what most of those polls DO seem to indicate is that "Warlord" is the least unsatisfactory of all alternatives - which means it's the best one anyone can come up with. :)

RE: The 4E complainer issue --

I've been back and forth on 4E myself, and I'll continue to do so, I suspect. Some things have grown on me over time, especially from reading other people's thoughts on it; if someone had hypothetically "kicked me out", I don't think that would have happened. I'd rather have discussion, even if a lot of it is what I don't want to hear. As long as we don't have any sabotage attempts like some posters we've banned in the past, then it's still good to me. Like Kevin said, tolerance goes both ways.

Heh, great, so there's a thread here asking those whose posts have no other content than their opinion on 4E to stop posting here if that opinion is a negative one.

Why not extend it to those whose posts have no other content than their opinion on 4E period? ;)

Could be we'll be seeing weedballs rolling by here soon. :uhoh:

Exactly.

I have no problem with critiquing elements of 4e. I'm just tired of sanctimonious anti-4e posts that add nothing to a discussion.

Agreed. As one who has professed a dislike of the 4e rules as presented and has clearly stated why I hold that opinion, I too shall continue to critique elements of 4e until the actual product is released. THEN I'll start whining. :D

Could we agree to a moratorium on 3.5 grognardry in the 4th Editon forum?

No, because "grognardy" is ill-defined. What constitutes "grognardy"? Where does one draw the line between that, and legitimate points of discussion? You are correct that coming into the 4e forum with only the intent to vent and gripe is doing everyone in EN World a disservice, but determining intent over the internet is, as P-cat has already said, a slippery slope.

The more constructive approach is to deal not with the opinion, but with how it is expressed. We already do try to catch as many repeat-threadcrap-offenders as we can. There are ways you guys can help:

1) Don't Engage - Don't feed the troll. Don't dignify threadcrap with a response. Use the Ignore feature if you have to. If folks would stop replying and giving negative responses fodder, it'd be a lot less interesting for the perpetrators to bother.

2) Report Posts - if you see someone doing this, report them. If you see a pattern, make sure you mention it.

3)Follow The Rules - If you do feel you need to respond, be absolutely 100% sure you are following the rules. Do not escalate into conflict. Be unfailing polite. As P-cat has said, there have been about as many rude people on each side of the pro/anti 4e divide. Don't be part of it.

I can see it now: the Grognard Gazebo!

Eh. I'm more offended by 3.5ers trying to claim Grognard as their new appellation. Go get yer own nickname, and leave Grognard to us early editioners. :)

The guy in your userpic has a HUGE smile. It's really unnerving, actually. :uhoh:

It's a portrait of me. Would you believe me if I told you it's got a HUGE smile because I'm a really friendly and happy guy? :D
