A New Way to Save Farscape?

The Farscape article in Salon today [3/13/03] has an interesting link to a site, The Viewer Consortium that hopes to raise enough cash to fund at least one more episode (presumably where things would at least get tied up). Sounds interesting.

This has been tossed around for a few months now as have other alternatives.

Honestly, I don't even know if one ep would even clear things up at all. They would probably need something like a mini-series to do it right. The producers had everything set up for a full season follow-up to the events in S4. And IIRC, Sci-Fi tried to get a 1/2-season out of Farscape but the producers didn't want that which leads me to believe that they simply need more airtime to show the story.

I love my Farscape, don't get me wrong. I would love to see things get wrapped up better than I know they will be by the finale. But the ratings aren't there (feh) and all the sets have been destoyed and I'm fairly certain a bunch of the main cast have already found other acting gigs (I know Anthony Simcoe and Gigi Edgly have) that will keep them occupied for a while.

The biggest problem is they need money to make the shows and a network to broadcast them. Right now, they have neither and while this fan initiatve sounds great, unless someone with a buttload of cash decides they want more Farscape it probably won't happen.

All that said, I am very interested to see where this goes. I have met a good number of Farscape fans so I know there is support out there, I just don't know if there is enough.

I think the most likely thing to happen would be a movie or the anime deal they have been talking about.

I am going to keep it alive by role-playing a campaign of the 5th season. Think how fun that would be--you and your farscape-fan buddies play out the end of the show the way YOU think it should end.

If anyone else does this, I would love to see a Story Hour of it.

I think the best you could hope for is a SCI FI Farscape movie in the future, their not going to get a full season, and right now I doubt SCI FI would even fund a 2 hour made for TV movie, but they might next season if they think they might be able to pop a rating at all with it (and get it at least partially funded by outside donations/sources). I got a feeling we will just be left forever hanging though.

That is a REALLY good idea. If I could scrape up a few more players who have seen enough Farscape to do it right I'd post a very long story hour. I'd like to hear if anyone else does this....

Given Sci-Fi's lack of support for the series over the last year I'm forced to agree. A 2 hour movie is possible and maybe even a mini-series (even on another network) but it's a long way off. I've already started to lament even though I haven't seen the cliffhanger yet...
