A Paladin in Hell

There are three sources I can think of off of the top of my head. The planes of law box set, the hellbound: Blood War box set and the Guide to Hell. The primary source of the shakeup is in Guide to Hell, which deals a lot with infernal history.

Faces of Evil: The Fiends doesn't have too too much history in it, but it's still a great product. I like that it explores the whole "ancient Baatorian" thing, that otherwise (Hellbound and Tales From the Infinite Staircase notwithstanding) was ignored.

Has anyone converted "A Paladin in Hell" 2E adventure?

I'm running it for my group currently, I've just been converting on the fly for the most part. I'd be willing to answer any questions you have.

I will say if I had it to do over again, I would've done all the coversion up front. Actually conversion is too light a word, it would have to be more like an extensive rework. The encounter levels if directly converted to 3e versions of monsters range from EL5 to 25+. Most encounters have been on the low side EL-wise, so it just becomes a matter of wading through enough low level guys to get to the "Boss" by which time they've used enough resources that the EL is way too high. I don't know how you could've made it through this adventure in 2nd edition with clerics not being able to regain spells.

My group was 18th level when they started, and are now 20th. They should probably be 22nd or so based on xp, but I stopped them from advancing beyond 20th, because I didn't want to open up the whole epic can of worms mid adventure.

I'm thinking a 14-15th level party would be much better suited, you would just need to tone down some of the more dificult encounters, instead of scaling up the low end and still toning down the high end.

I have never seen this module before, and I have been around D&D for a while, of course, there was the whole I have 2ed thing where I almost quit for good. Anyway, when did this come out and where can I get a copy or PDF of it?

I like these types of things, it sounds like great fun.

I'm not sure about the year, but it must have been 1997-1998 or so, since this product was released close to the end of 2E, but not at the very very end. It can be downloaded from SVGames here: http://store.yahoo.com/svgames-store/tsr9586esd.html

The best person for TSR products of any early edition is BillJaffe Jr. of ACD Distrubtion

I have sent him an e-mail and may see him at Origins next week. and will post has soon has I have heard anything.

I have recently been inspired to give this module a look, and bought the PDF at RPGNow. I may give a conversion ago. I think a very good approach would be make it the basis of an 'Exalted' campaign', perhaps with material from the BoVD as well.

You've got to remember that 2E characters didn't jump through the levels as quickly as 3E characters do. An 18th level character in 2E usually had a LOT more magical items (more powerful too) than a 18th level 3E character and this was stricktly due to the amount of time it took to get to that 18th level. Also, it didn't hurt that we had about 8 PCs in the group. Also, we had a Druid in the party and we found out just how potent a Dire Bear can really be. :)
