A problem with mounts?

First Post
Elephants, as per RAW (Rules As Written,) can only carry a normal load of 312 pounds. My Dragonborn Ranger is heavier than that, naked. ELEPHANTS! Normal: 312. Heavy: 625. Push/Drag: 1562. Seems kinda funked.

God help any standard riding horse with a rider wearing anything more than Hide!

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is there something I have overlooked?

In my games I house ruled that there are specially bread mounts for use by Dragonborn and Warforged that carry double or even triple the amount listed in the standard mount description blocks. I don't change any other stat and I don't change the cost. It's just a simple house rule, and it probably doesn't make any logical sense, but it works for my games and nobody has abused it so far.

I'm glad you brought it up. At one point I mentioned swimming rates in the 2e Player's Handbook and this is the same sort of petty annoyance: a matter that I happen to know something about, that was done right in the dusty old previous edition and wrong in the shiny new version for no visible reason except lack of attention and research.

edit: As the previous sentence might suggest, my house rule would be to apply the adjustments for Size and quadruped form from the 3.5 SRD.

Sounds like the way to go,..thanks for the feedback. I had to ask, simply because I want to minimise 'house rules' and unexpected consequences they could produce.

Thanks again.
