A Question About Foreign RPGs

It sounds just different enough I'd like to get to know it better.

GURPS german is metric, most other german translations I know are metric, though I play most of my games using the english books. I don't think anyone would accept a non-metric game here in germany - there are not many who can "translate" feet, inch and miles to metric "on the fly".

In the portuguese translation of d&d 3.5 they used metric system. 5 feet = 1.5 Meters. Some years later, Wizards of the Coast made a conversion available on the net, using 5 feet = 2 meters ;-)

When we play, we like to stick to the metric system... When i tell my players that the monster is ( meters away... everyone know what distance im talking about. when i say 30 feet, they need to stop and make the calc... this is simple maths, but thats 2m seconds are enough to take away from the game.

Really, if game designers would just stick mostly to meters and yards, we wouldn't have to worry about conversion at all.

Or "paces". Then all you have to worry about is halfling-to-human-to-ogre conversions, rather than metric-to-imperial.

It's almost like we need a... a ministry of some sort to keep track of all these silly paces.

I'm too lazy to look this up myself, but isn't GURPS in metric in the U.S.?
