A question for all the grognards! Help me pick a classic module.

White Plume Mountain

Most people think of Mordenkainen when you say Greyhawk. I think Keraptis.

Ugh so do I, Keraptis was such a jerk. However, White Plume Mountain is my 2nd favorite module, the 1st being Isle of Dread.

I recommend that everyone try the Isle of Dread if you havn't, its awesome :D

You should go, definitely. (It's the one on South Lamar, near Capital of Texas hwy.) I probably got the best of it,

Well, keep in mind that I had already picked through the collection. :) You missed the stack of Dungeon issues (40s and 50s) and several modules.

Wil, I found this bunch right after we had lunch last week. You guys really should have skipped going back to the office.

In addition to recommending N1 and L1 as others have done, I'll mention X2 Castle Amber, which can easily blossom into a mini-campaign. Like the former two modules, X2 is often overlooked for its broad tapestry of Clark Ashton Smith coolness :D

If you have a copy of Dungeon #4, "Trouble at Grogs" is a wonderful investigative adventure for low-level PCs. The recent Age of Worms modules would also do nicely, although you won't have to convert them (unless you're playing C&C or somesuch).

N1 is great. I don't have anything to add to what has already been said.

L1 is excellent too, as it is really a mini-campaign setting. When combined with L2 ("The Assassin's Knot"), the 'L' series makes for some truly fine gaming. L2 is a mystery adventure, btw, which is a neat contrast to L1.

UK2-3 were already mentioned. They're very fine modules, but IMO the best AD&D module is UK4 ("When A Star Falls"). It has lots of interesting elements -- a truly unique beginning, a compelling plot, some intriguing plot twists, many colourful NPCs, and a cool ending.

For Basic D&D, I think B10 ("Night's Dark Terror") is perhaps the best module ever written. It is a mini-campaign that can last for months, and has everything you could want in a D&D module -- plus an amazing, truly 'Cthulhu-esqu' ending.
