A Review of 6E

I just wish people would just learn to play something like HERO System 7 or VirtualGurps instead... Even White Wolf's online Storyteller System is better if you've got a SatCon connection...

However...have you heard if RIFTS has made any changes from the original in its 8th edition, or is it still just repackaging with new art?

To be honest, I haven't kept up with RIFTS ever since Kevin Siembieda's clone took over the company. I was hoping for a little 'new blood' to freshen up the line, but instead we got more of the same... literally.

Any news on whether Elminster will finally die in the next FR revision? I mean, they moved the timeline to 3363 in 5.25, and he was STILL alive and kickin'.

No mention of races. Are they included in this edition or are they going back to the "mandatory splatbooks" that they tried out in 3.99-B ?

He's being kept in a cryogenic suspension chamber that is housed where they also have Elvis Presley and John Wayne. ;)

And don't tell me it's coincidence that Monte Cook Presents: Monte Cook's Arcana Extreme (by Monte Cook!) was released just a week after 6e (sorry, Monte, just ribbin' ya). I'm still not sure about those spells rehearsed rules, and the chicken totem warrior is just wrong.

I haven't had a chance to pick up MCP:MCAE (bMC) yet. Can you tell me if they made any significant changes to the Champion of Dairy Products class? I heard rumors they were going to nerf the 'Aura of Curdling' power.

He does actually die in the FR setting. However, they import his spirit into Eberron, where he becomes a Warforged. And he's still got that annoying accent; there's an audio file I wish I could delete.

Whoops, oversight on my part. Races are back in the core rules, including all the variants (15 different elves, 8 different dwarves, 16 plane-touched races, etc).

Still only one gnome race. And the half-orc is still underpowered.

Well, AoC was overpowered I don't think anyone would argue that.

I have to say, I applaud Monte's new pricing system. Sure, $1,200,000.00 seems like a lot, but the option to spread the cost out by donating your organs to extend his life really helps bring down the cost. Besides, who needs two lungs anyway? Redundant if you ask me. And if you pre-order you get that snazzy Ptolus virtual realty package. Although, I should warn people: the color is bugged so everything is orange and green. Hopefully this will be cleared up in errata.

I've been wanting to try out Gamma World 12e, but it fails to reflect the challenges of the real post-apocalyptic era.

Hey, that's why it's called a 'fantasy' role-playing 'game'! I don't want to simulate reality that closely! I can't imagine a game system that incorporates a 96% mortality rate with horrific genetic mutations to be much fun.
