A Sailor Talks Too Much (El Jefe Judging)(completed)

Ray steps forward drawing a cutlass and walking towards the downed assailant...

Looking at Verrick...speaking in a rather harsh and put upon tone....

What in the name of the Labyrinth are you doing?

Unless you intend to be carrying him along I suggest you let me finish it...

We
<pointing back and forth between himself and Pinkie> don't leave loose ends, he knows our faces and most likely names too.
I've already take two lives this night another is no matter, I dunno who this &^$$# hole is <motioning to Uggla> but someone wants him enough to waste several lives to have him....

I think we need to have a frank talk with our "employer", that is after we get rid of <motioning to the man at his feet with his weapon> this %$## head here...

He pauses over the man waiting for Verrick's response...

Pinkie looks on as Ray starts to talk...as he talks she reaches into he boot, draws a dagger and as Ray says...

"this %$## head here..."

She bends down and with a lightning quick flick of her wrist drags the dagger across the mans throat leaving a wicked looking gash....

CGD = 6

Screw him...

what he gets for hitting a girl....

lets go...

[sblock=OOPS!] Stupid small weapons and crappy rolls sort of take the thunder out of her revenge huh? Doubt he's dead now. [/sblock]

Verrick is confounded

"Are you crazy! You would murder a man? In a city such as Orusus? With the watch just around the corner?"

Looking at his other companions, Verrick continues, "Help me save him, we will be worse off if he dies."

Verrick then again kneels to help to wounded man, desperately trying to staunch the blood now flowing from his neck. He whispers, "May Zephos guard the gate from those whose journey is not yet complete." First Aid(Again); (1d20+2=22) OOC: At least the dice gods smiled upon me this time, I was really nervous that Verrick would fail and have to deal with a murder commited right in front of him, now all he has to deal with is attempted murder.

Having managed to once again staunch the fallen man's wounds (I assume), Verrick says, "We were hired to discretely rescue this man (indicating towards Uggla) from harm. We were not hired to kill anyone. And right now we are doing a poor job of being discrete." Verrick hurridly pats the man down trying to find anything that would help him and his companions identify the man or his purpose. Search of the fallen man (1d20+2=19) OOC: Now I am getting paranoid. Where are these rolls coming from?

[sblock=OOC] If I understand correctly, in addition to the man Pinkie dropped, and Verrick has helped, there is one additional assailant who Ray dropped in the first round. How far away from the group is he? Furthermore, what weapons were the men using. Specificly we have the man who damaged Pinkie, what weapon did he use?

If I recall correctly, A CDG works by scoring an automatic critical, but criticals do not multiply damage dice that are in addition to the normal weapon damage, including the extra dice from a sneak attack. Thus the last 1 rolled for the CDG does not count, and the attack only deals 5 damage. Given the will of the dice, I think this man is suppose to live. ;)

I think it is fair to say that Verrick was flatfooted with regard to Pinkie, and could not take advantage of the AOO the CDG provokes in order to prevent Pinkie's attack (check out the cool acronyms.) I would say that Verrick is now wise to her, and will not be caught by surprise again, but what with the Heal check and the Search check, it seems that Verrick has left himself open, and at this moment does not threaten any squares.

At any rate, resolving this intra-party conflict should be interesting. :heh: Our alignments pretty much cover the spectrum.[/sblock]

A smile crosses Looksprings face as he says, "It is the truth that we were only hired to retrieve this one. Killing these men is a perk.

They fought us and lost, and so they die, that is the way of things."

He looks down at the body still clinging to life. "Our employer bes not telling us all he knows though. Perhaps this one will with a little persuasion." He thumbs the edge of his handaxe meaningfully. "If'n you wants to be keeping this one, bring it with us and we will ply it with our questions."

The other man Ray had dropped is about 60ft from where the group now stands in the entrance to an alley. He is still not moving. The attacks were all made using a sap, although the attackers all carried other weapons as well.

Yes you have once again stabalized the man after Pinkie cut his throat. I am enjoying the intra party ic interaction. I like all the moral dilemmas Verrick has encountered. :] As Verrick administers first aid he does not threaten any squares.

Lookspring makes another good point. I think we lose out if we simply ignore opportunities as they arrive. Clearly this men of of another affiliation. One which (at this point Verrick gestures with the man's sap) meant to cause us bruises, but I am not sure that they had plans for us beyond that.

Clearly unwilling to leave the man unattended, Verrick motions towards the man lying still near the alley and continues, "What of that man. does he yet live?"

OoC: I almost forgot there is another one that is down near Uggla. This is one is beyond help at this point, and still the one 60 ft away and the one Verrick has helped. (total of three at this location...so far...)

Umm...

Dead men tell no tales, finish him Verrick - unless you want to spend the rest of your life in jail.

Dead he can't say who we are, alive, there's the revenge he, or his employer will surely want then the watch etc...etc...

No man who'd attack a defenseless lady on the street needs saving...

If you haven't the stomach for it stand back I do...

Verrick Responds

Dead men may tell no tales, but look around you. Where are all of the people who were in the street? They may have tales to tell. What of this man's companions? Not only do they have tales to tell, they may have reason to see the actors find themselves in further stories.

Look, we gain nothing by killing; but we lose too much if he is killed. We must quickly move from this scene, and I am not suggesting that we must bring these men with us; but killing them will not help us.

OOC: So there are two downed men near the main group, one of which Verrick has stablized, and one which is beyond the help of mortal men. I would really like the man near the alley to be looked at, but at this point, Verrick still does not feel that the man he has just attended to will be safe alone with the rest of his group, and unfortuantly, up to this point no one else has responded to his pleas of aid, or otherwise followed his example.

All this trouble, and these men are probably just theives who wanted to take advatage of a group of drunks that had wandered onto the wrong street, in the wrong part of town.

By the way, BigB, did Verrick's search of the body turn up anything interesting? Specificly, anything that might identify the man, his group, or their purpose?

[sblock= Verrick] As you search the man you have tended to and now protect you find he is wearing poor condition leather armor(looks like it was found discarded in some trash or taken from a grave although the man had attempted some repairs and cleaning), carried a club in addition to his sap, and has a pouch with 11 copper pieces. Nothing to identify him as belonging to a group.[/sblock]

The way the attack was coordinated seems to point to some sort of organization although not a well trained or experienced organization as they fled at first sight of resistance.
