A science question for all of you...

Only thing you are missing is that genetics is cold hard science while psychology is just slightly better than a wild ass guess. Consider that biology is nearly 3000 years old, while psychology is barely a hundred. You're comparing apples and oranges.

more of an effective art (billions of dollars in advertising can't be wrong), and older than one hundred (those crazy medival merchants!!! Also Plato came up with the four archtypes [Idealist, Artist, Guardian, and Rational I think]).

Still, an interesting coinkeedink...

Just a thought folks, don't kill the thinker :)

Except there aren't four basic amino acids, there are twenty.

There are however four basic nucleotides. Well, basic meaning abundant, because there are some other ones that are very necessary, inosine being chief among them.

Sorry. Biology of any type was never my strong suit... :p

What are the four personality types in psychology?

Depends on who you talk to. One named them after animals (Lion, Bear, Bee, Otter).

I forget the names given in Socialogy, but they use a blend of the four archtypes to define a personality (they even have charts!!)

Then again, the aniagrams use twelve diffierent types. It not a wholly accepted practice though.

jung had also been doing work on archtypes. Tarot books quote him constantly, since he researched the subject.

Depends on who you ask. Plato has been quoted, but I've probably seen 10 or more variations on the theme. For the most part, they can be summed up as:
  1. My way -- aggressive/leader
  2. Your way -- submissive/councelor
  3. The fun way -- fun/emotional
  4. The right way -- structured/rational
That's very simplistic, but IME, it is the simplest form for all the "personality types" tests I've seen -- with the exception of Myers-Briggs, although that may be a matter of finding the right way to group the sixteen options into groups of four.

There are no true personality "types". Personality is HIGHLY complicated, summing up every single non-physical aspect of a human being. Summing personality into 4 base types is being frighteningly simplistic at best. And yes, it is a coincidence. Pure and simple.

Sounds like you're a "My way -- aggressive/leader" to me :p ;)
