We've gotten our main group's characters to level 5 now with over 70 hours of 4e play experience (about 12 -14 sessions or so doing 2 per week). One of my players in that group was so inspired after 20 hours of play that he is now running his own game session every other week. He had never DM'ed before and 4e was his first real roleplaying experience. 4e is so DM friendly that he was running like a pro his first session, with just a couple of errors from lack of experience.
Personally, I've DM'ed for over 25 years. I started on the blue box OD&D and played every edition of AD&D since. I am a huge fan of WFRP and White Wolf OWOD. I've ran campaigns for Dark Sun, Planescape, Werewolf, Vampire Dark Ages, Wraith, Shadowrun and numerous other small stuff. Plus, years of the Robotech rpg when I was a kid.
I have to say, 4e has been the most fun and easy of running I've had since I first started playing. It also has freed me up as a DM, giving me more control over the game than any previous edition of D&D has, while maintaining the depth of character choices 3.x introduced.
Anyrate, keep playing 4e. It sounds like your having a good time with it, and it only gets better the more and more you play
