D&D 3E/3.5 A vaguely remembered prestige class

The film itself is dire, but speak no ill of Vermithrax Pejorative, the greatest practical FX dragon in all of film history. Which is not a minor achievement considering the Seventh Voyage of Sinbad exists. :)
Hell, for my money, Vermithrax Pejorative is one of the best dragons on film, period.

I don’t think I’ve seen any better until the past few years.

I learned in my googling that the dragons in Reign of Fire (the ridiculous post-drapocalypse movie that wastes both Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey) were based on Vermithrax’s design, just a little more dinosaur-like.

I suppose McConaughey’s character in that movie was some kind of Barbarian / Frenzied Berserker (PrC) / Dragonslayer (PrC)! Like a real 3e player, he stacked those PrC's for maximal effectiveness.

Definitely. The only reason I single out practical FX is so that CGI entries have some chance to even make it on a list. Very much prefer practical FX to CGI, whether we're talking monsters like Harryhausen's creations or Vermithrax or model work like 2001 and Space: 1999.

"Vermithrax Pejorative" why is the word Pejorative part of its name? This is breaking my brain. Does it suggest the dragon has a more positive name?

Also to bring this full circle: 3e Draconomicon included PrC's for dragons, so we can debate which of these Vermitrhax possessed in her 3e statblock:
  • Bloodscaled Fury
  • Disciple of Ashardalon (probably not)
  • Dispassionate Watcher of Chronepsis (no way; she ain't just watchin')
  • Dragon Ascendant
  • Elemental Master (ehh... not really)
  • Hidecarved Dragon (no, but this is a super cool PrC in which the dragon en-rune-ifies itself)
  • Sacred Warder of Bahamut (hahaha, no)
  • Unholy Ravager of Tiamat (not literally, but figuratively, maybe!)
