I'm afraid you've completely lost me here with this response.

They're both 2nd level. Shocking missle does 1d8+1 per level

Soooo.......MAA cast at 3rd level does 4d4 (4-16)

Shocking Missile cast at 3rd level does 3d8+3 (6-27).

Also, MAA allows SR, and the extra damage can be neutralized. Neither of these can be said about Shocking Missile.
 

Just pointing out that they both do damage, just that the errata'ed version is a little less now than Melf's. That's all I'm saying Mulk.
 

Melf's Acid Arrow caps out at 7rnds worth of 2d4 acid damage... so that's 14d4 (14-56 damage).

This Shocking Missile spells caps out at 10d8+10 (20-90 damage).

+ Melf's suffers from SR and can be neutralized... so uh... ya know what I'm sayin' right ;) :p

Again I'm saying that the errata'ed version IS better. But I'm also pointing out that Melf's has a higher damage cap. Btw you are right DD, I miss reread that part. In any case, still a lot of damage dealt by one missile...

Besides if a creature has energy resistance/immunity to electric (as many MM/CC monsters do) it's ineffective.

Exactly. I too felt this one of those spells that made you go "HUH?". But otherwise, there are PLENTY of fine spells in the book. (Example, Censure of Mesos, [eliminates spellcasting for 1 round per/level], Mesos' Vengeance [causes damage to spellcasters via 'arcane heat'], Cone of Oblivion [Now THERE'S a Death ray!], and of course Essential Blade [cuts down on natural and metal armors pretty well, but doesn't affect damage reduction])

They can still miss. And besides, I'm pretty sure arrows BOUNCE off Tarrasques. (My point being there, this spell wouldn't be much use against such a creature.)
