A well-meaning thread that degenerated into "is the OA Samuari historically accurate"

If you can, give us a short description of the feat, and the PrC that you think are more ripe for powergaming(In short, tell us what the next character in Jollydock's campaign will be,if Ajax bites the dust. :D )
Tough to say, I really haven't time to look through the book. But both the Hexblade (20 level progression, Fighter BAB, Mettle, good Will save, 4 levels of casting plus cursing abilities) and The Occult Slayer (5 level mage slayer PrC) both look pretty strong. As does OotBI.

Most feats are S&F conversions. I haven't had a chance to look at the Tactical and Weapon Style feats yet though.

Does ranged prescision damage apply to full, iterative attacks, or only standard attack actions?
Standard attack actions (e.g. you only get one/round). However, it can stack with sneak attack if you have the ability and your opponent is flat-footed. In any case, ranged precision works no matter what the status of your opponent.

Interesting. So, its only perk is a +5d8 at 10th level in place of the iterative attacks. I won't do the expected damage comparison, but its probably only slightly ahead of a standard archer fighter. And given how much archery has been knocked down in the revision, its probably balanced.

What in Sword and Fist is -NOT- also in this book?

So, once I get this book will my copy of Sword and Fist be headed to the recycling bin or not?

Even against Undead, Constructs, and Plants?

Errr . . . no.

"Any creature that is immune to critical hits . . . is not vulnerable to a ranged precision attack, and any item or ability that protects a creature from critical hits (such as armor with the fortification special ability) also protects a creature from the extra damage."

But don't forget that your chance to hit goes down with each iterative attack. The OBI would probably outperform a standard archer fighter against hard-to hit opponents.

EDIT - Also, since it's a standard action to perform a ranged precision attack, an OBI with Shot on the Run would make a great mobile archer.

So the new OotBI's key ability is basically Manyshot without the attack penalty but worthless against creatures immune to crits. There might be select times when tactically the Ranged Precision is more benefial than iterative attacks but it looks like an Archery related ranger is not only better overall, but is even a more effective archer.
