A Whole Bunch of Zombie RPG Questions

But it wasn't their second product. It was, like, their fifth or sixth product.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to recommend All Flesh Must Be Eaten. It's that good.

I'm going to take your word for it and say I stand corrected.

However, I still hold to the fact that it was a really stupid sourcebook, especially when there is so much more they could have covered.

Don't forget Weekend Warriors by 12 to Midnight. It's a zombie adventure taking place on a military base. It's really a one-shot module, but if you want to do the work, it's worth it's price in maps of the base alone, just consider the adventure text as a freebie. :P

I think my review is in my sig, if not...check it out on the reviews site (search for Weekend Warriors).

Okay, so they put out a silly sourcebook. That invalidates the whole line?

Honestly. AFMBE is the best rules system for zombie gaming I've ever seen. And the wrestling stuff is in a supplement you don't have to buy! :) Plus, the new edition of the core rulebook has a conversion appendix for d20.

For pure d20, Blood & Brains is a good book. Has a few silly things, is very strongly inspired by Evil Dead / Army of Darkness, but has a number of very fun rules and ideas in it. It's also very cheap. ;)

Haven't checked out Year of the Zombie yet, though I plan to.

3)As for modules: I'm only aware of a few, mostly for fantasy gaming. Check out the Wizards' website for free adventures, I know there are a few zombie/undead focused ones.

Pick up the old Ravenloft adventure for D&D 2e, Night of the Walking Dead. Classic. :)

4) Mass combat rules are very uncessary. You generally only need rules for you PCs, and however many zombies they're dealing with at the time. Massive combat is generally best left to GM fiat: "As you look out the window, you see a platoon of Army personnel firing frantically at the oncoming horde. Body parts are flying everywhere, but the zombies are relentless..."

5) The Zombie Survival Guide is a great non-RPG resource for the subject. It's written tongue-in-cheek, but it actually makes some good points and has tons of ideas for your campaign.

The NCRPC site & free PDF are both great ideas as well.

In my opinion, yes. Considering the price of their books (vs. size of their books), and the material that was still available for running a decent Zombie game... it was a major buzz-kill.

Thanks for the suggestions on stuff! I'm still pondering Year of the Zombie.... hmmm....

They've done martial arts zombies, wild west zombies, pulp zombies, Fantasy zombies, Zombies around the world, two books of different sample PCs, a book for players and three volumes of award-winning fiction - and your problem is that they did a wrestling book? What else were you expecting?

I'll admit the idea of wrestling doesn't appeal to me either, but you gotta admit - if you had large throngs of the walking dead around, some unscrupulous promoter would try throwing them in a ring or cage together and taking bets on who wins.

All Flesh Must Be Eaten is simply the best Zombie RPG out there- it’s fast, simple, and amazingly versatile in the number of zombie-like settings the system supports. The point-balanced make-your-own-zombies rules in the core book ensure that your zombies react just the way you think they should. Dawn of the Dead? 28 Days Later? Resident Evil? You can set up such campaigns in minutes, or whatever else you can think of.

I wouldn’t overlook this system just because they have an optional(!!!) supplement(!!!) that didn’t interest you. Everything you would need is in the core book anyway.

No kidding. Given that;

1. Humanity is what it is

And

2. Rednecks seem to have a knack for surviving zompocalypses

The idea of seeing a bunch of undead in a cage while Bubba puts money on one of them over his beer and pork skins doesn’t seem that far-fetched to me.

I'll chime in with the unwanted responce that All Flesh is indeed the best Zombie game out there.

It really is a good line. You don't need the sourcebooks to run the game. I've found them reasonably priced. Hell, they're better than WOTC's prices, from what I've seen.
