[aargh!] 3.5 wierds out my old character!

Olive

Wow, again, the only thing I'm not happy with is the spell changes. My old character, Olive, is a transmuter with a banned school of conjuration. Whe's always been a teleport queen, and now... they're conjurations.

Bugger. :(

I noticed that too, and my abjurer is going to suffer. I don't have conj. already and in 3.5 I will be loosing necro (no biggie there) but loosing the chance to teleport. Bugger. :(

Still, more xp from wandering around the place rather than just blipping there. :)

I feel your pain, Olive. One of the characters in my 2.5-year campaign is also a transmuter wizard with conjuration as his prohibited school. Almost his entire typical daily spell list -- including teleport, polymorph other, burning hands, dimension door, scry, reduce, enlarge, wall of force, and the buff spells -- is substantially changed in 3.5.

As much as I approve of most changes in the new revision, a 3.5 version of that particular character would bear little resemblence to his 3.0 self. That character is the main reason I'm not going to switch my campaign over 3.5. I'll pick up 3.5 next campaign.

My first thought would be, "DM? Can I revise? I got hosed!" If the DM sayeth so, your transmuter can find another specialty somehow.

The two rules for revision for our campaign are:

1) Be able to do roughly the same thing you did before; and
2) Don't drop caster levels.

My melee priest dropped SF (Evoc.), since he lost a feat and it wouldn't hurt him, and the rogue actually came out feat-neutral and ahead on skill points...though he might have to start wearing armor again, since the verdammt duelist canny defense changed.

Personally I'm completely against NOT being able to ban Divination IF you're not a diviner. Screw that I'm going back to 3.0 for wizard specialization.

I think I would feel a lot more sympathy if your character had been a diviner with banned school Transmutation. :D
