Aasimar and Tiefling should be Themes or templates, not races

The entire 4e was created to appeal to World of Warcraft players. They system itself looks like it came straight from an MMO.

LOL, because you see healing surges, marks, feat-based multiclassing, and other 4e-isms all the time in MMOs.

Please, if you must edition-war, can't you be a little more original in your ignorant bleating? "4E IZ JUST WOW LOL" is so tired.

Not to mention Tiefling was first introduced in Planescape in 1994, and later in the PHB in '96. It was first made a truly "playable race" in 2001, still a full 3 years before WoW even launched.

The closest race tieflings could be compared to in WoW is the Draenei, who actually first appeared in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne expansion. Even then we're only talking about physical appearance, beyond the slightly demonic look, the Draenei and Tieflings have almost nothing in common.

I blame the cartoon with the gnome ("I'm a monster!") for giving the tiefling player character an accent that sounded like a Draenei.

It wouldn't surprise me if they're the same voice actor. The market for english VAs is TINY, and 9/10 if a voice sounds similar, it probably is. It's such a silly American paradigm that "strange/evil/foreign" things have Russian accents.

Again, Which MMO did you play that 4E "itself looks like it came straight from". We know there are no tieflings in WoW. I have played DDO, which looks just like D&D 3.5, big surprise there. Are you inferring MMO's are bad? Over 10,000,000 play WoW. Where is your blog link on why 4E is a failure? Don't you have anything better to do than just keep crapping on 4E.

I wish I said that!

And didn't MMOs get their "inspiration" from D&D and other early RPGs?

And I thought this was a race discussion, not an edition war...

4E have a few elements of MMOs, of course, Tank/DPS/Healer being the main... but it shares far more stuff in common with Wargames. Far more.

But, sure, it's easier for those who hate 4E (how can one hate an edition or system?) compare to MMOs, even if sometimes they never played a MMO or 4E.

Good or bad, I'd call it D&DTactics, not D&DMMO. "WowD&D" it's just a poor argument based on internet folklore, again, love it or hate it.

I do think, though, that planetouched races are best handled by a simple template, theme, or feat tree. That way, they can be applied to any character in a campaign where the DM allows them.
