About spells that seem useless because of duration

What if I want or need a full report of activities in a forest and I need detailed descriptions?

Gain a few levels.

What, you want a forest stronghold at 1st level? Shame on you. Consider playing Werewolf: the Forsaken or something like that.

No, I dont want a forest stronghold...I want to speak with Animals...no more nor less.

The wizard who supposedly does not wear armor can have an armor for 1 hour at that level.

But,,,Bad druid, bad druid...How you dare to want to speak with an animal for more than a minute uh?

When I play a druid...I do that...I am a druid...I want to know how the animals are doing in th forest...I see a squirrel and I like to know if it is fine, if its family is doing well, are there enough nuts for it and the rest? any of its family members is sick? Have any notice about any animal who may need a hand? and I can go like that for quite a time...So as you see, it comes short to me to only have a minute...

Nothing to do with a stronghold...nothing to do with combat...

With 10 minutes per lvl I would feel more confortable with the spell...

To not mention that I never got past lvl 5..I die always :P Not the DM fault, though...He uses the enemies very well (what i like even if sometimes I feel my Dm thinks better then me :P)

Apuglisi, a level 1 druid is not a master druid. He's a beginning druid. Like a doctor who's just started his practice. He knows the basics, but he's not a skilled veteran. When your PC is at level 1, you can't expect to be the skilled veteran, that only comes with levels.

I can understand that you'd like all your powers at level 1, since your PCs never live past level 5. But honestly, I don't think there's any problem with the druid.

Next game, suggest to your DM that your group start out at level 6. :p

You Dont get my point, it seems...

I dont want all my powers at lvl 1...I want to speak qirh Animals...Simple as that...not 1 min :/

I know a lvl 1 druid is not a master but it can do a lot at that lvl...It can heal a squirrel (CLW) for sure, Can help a squirrel to find food (Survival), Can give it advice to move toanother tree (KNowledge Nature), Can tell it if there is a better place to forage..Etc... These are just a few things I can think without trying hard...

So, 1 min becomes useless to me, at least in that sense...

I would just let druids learn animal languages like normal languages. Group them by terrain type. Thus you could learn to speak 'plains animal languages' and be able to talk to any creature of the animal type with 'plains' in its habitat listing, or 'swamp animal languages' or any other setting.
