Absorbing Shield, no save?

Absorbing Shield

This +1 large steel shield is flat black in color and seems to absorb light. Every other day, it can be commanded to absorb a single Large or smaller object or creature that touches its front, annihilating the thing that touches it as a sphere of annihilation does. A successful touch attack in combat is all that’s needed to absorb a target. The shield therefore can deliver devastating shield bashes, but it is also useful for destroying an opponent’s weapon.

Caster Level: 17th; Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, disintegrate; Market Price: 50,170 gp; Cost to Create: 25,170 gp + 2,000 XP.

Is there no save for this? It looks a bit too powerful, the ability to kill anything with a touch attack, with no save.

There is no save, "a successful touch attack in combat is all that's need to absorb a target."

I tend to agree that it is overpowerful.

Sphere of Annihilation is a Minor Artifact and has no listed price.

Since Disintegrate is used to create the shield, a Fort save should be allowed. DC should be about 19 10(base)+6(spell level)+3(min ability to cast 6th level spell).

The real problem is that it prevents anything from reviving the creature short of divine intervention.

This should be a minor artifact, IMHO.

Agreed, since it's putting the power of a minor artifact (once every other day) into a shield.

Can anyone do a price breakdown of it?

My group banned that thing the instant we noticed it.

Um it's like 2000 gp for +1, and then 48000 GP for instant kill with no save? Cheaper than a +1 vorpal sword..

Edit: Fixed numbers
