Acquisitions Inc. switching to Daggerheart

YouTube often just won't even show videos that lack clickbait titles and thumbnails. I'm seeing an uptick in videos that have that, but then are perfectly normal once you hit play. Videos lacking this can get hidden even if you're a regular watching subscriber.

You kind of just have to know the channel you're watching and ignore the thumbnails and titles. Those are just there to make the YouTube AI happy.

At to the thread title - I've no idea who Acquisitions Inc even is.

I've played DH online, not sure I agree with Mike on this one, at least in regards to DH init being tough to do online.

Otoh, I really disagree with doing SD "always on" init with DH...to me, the initiative systems are symbolic to the games' fundamental diametric gameplay.

Yes. It’s the fundamental win for me. Without it is just another RPG, albeit a good one.

500k characters created in what time? How do you arrive at that being 10% of DDB?
500,000 Daggerheart characters created on Demiplane in just 2025, as of Gencon, compared to the normal 6 million new characters a year on Beyond (based on some Google Fu, technically 8%).

Not saying either relates to sales in any direct measure, obviously, but it does suggest a lot of attention being paid to Daggerheart.

How many books do you think DH has sold?

It certainly does not translate to sales. You can make DH PCs for free on Demiplane.

I did it when I first learned about the game to see what it was like and to see if I knew what I was doing knowing zero about the rules, and the DP char wizard did a good job explaining things.

Fewer than 500,000! I made a Sharon Demiplane out of curiosity, and I have no plans to buy it in the future even, doubt I am alone. And I am sure tons of people made multiples. There is also the situation where often only a DM buys the actual book, and players juat show up with snacks and dice.

We lack hard numbers, but the cultural momentum is far larger than any game I can recall. The nearest parallels in cultural penetration I can think of are Pathfinder and VtM...and with Critical Role's media savvy, that can go a lot further, very fast. Variety never wrote an article about Paizo hiring former WotC developers.

Enough that they're past their third reprint. Plus a few reprints of the limited that isn't supposed to get a reprint... ;)

And that's just physical books. It's been the number 1 selling item on DriveThruRPG for some time now.

Number 2 is Legend in the Mist which despite being in that spot for quite some time seems to be getting a near silent reception in the community. Though I'd argue it might be the better narrative storytelling engine.

But what that tells me is DriveThruRPG sales might be less of an indicator than I see it held up as.

I think it's more important just how much buzz Daggerheart gets. It's talked about everywhere.

A second semi-useful metric is startplaying listings that have signups. They don't show games that are full (or I don't know how to look for that) so that's hard to gauge. But this is where you can see paid GMs. GMs who want to get paid will stop trying if a game isn't filling up often. Daggerheart does well there, as does Legend and it's sister systems. But neither is anywhere close to D&D or Pathfinder.

I find DH is great online. But I much prefer it when cameras are on and there is no 'battlemap' as that really helps with narrative focused games.

(I don't know what 'SD' was in the second half of your post. I'm guessing that's a comment about not having initiative? If so - for me that's the main appeal of Daggerheart and if you put initiative systems into it, even the optional one in the DH book, then I might as well just go back to playing a boardgame like D&D or Pathfinder.)
