Action Type Question

Our DM told us to create a character based off of one of the seven deadly sins. I chose wrath as my characters sin and decided to have him use it in a quirky manner.

He primarily used unarmed attacks (monk) but only uses non-lethal attacks until he hears/sees a trigger. So, without any really awesome triggers apparent I decided to go all two-face and make him flip a coin. If it is tails then the next enemy he fights will be being dealt lethal damage out of rage, if heads then non-lethal damage.

My question is what does flipping a coin cost as far as actions go.

I could easily see it as a swift action, but if unsheathing a weapon is a move action then something as simple as flipping a coin may be a move action.

Would flipping a coin be a move action or a swift action or even a free action?

In case you are wondering, for flavor purposes he has purchased a slave (Ok'd by my DM) to flip the coin for him and tell him the results standing outside of battle. So this is more for what action she would take.

Thank you for your time.

I would make it a move action...

I have another question for you? Monks are lawful, so how does having a sin such as wrath, and a chaotic way to determine something, such as flipping a coin, fit with the character? Is it something in his past? It sounds like it could be an interesting story...maybe he is like 2 face, and has a multiple personality disorder..that could provide some excellent role playing options...lawful and deliberate one minute, and angey and "fly off the handle" the next...

ooohhh can I play the Prideful paladin, the Lustful Wizard otr the Slothful Cleric...I can see a big fat lazy cleric, who complains about everything...

The Dm allowed me / helped me make a custom archetype based off of the monk and said that it didn't have to be lawful since technically he's not a monk he's a boxer. The monk was just used for how close it is to being like a boxer. A little odd I know but in any case, he allowed me to choose my alignment and I am not going to argue with that.

And yes... apparently slavery is legal.

The fat sloth cleric would be hilarious. I was this close to making a 6 yr. old sloth druid boy that just sat down when a fight started and let his animal companion do the work for him.

Thanks for the coin flipping info though.

The martial Artist archetype does not have to be lawful either..sounds like a fun game...the Prideful Paladin could be really cool too...or a murderous wizard...lots of cool ideas...

I can see having the flipping be a swift action if the coin were out already, or a move action to take it out and flip it...just my guess...
