Maybe something's going on in the background between some of the publishers and WotC... Hope so. :D

I don't think so. In this case it's, in my opinion, pretty obvious, that they are producing unlicensed material.

And now people are starting to finally realize that all you really get when you license is the right to put that logo on your stuff. You don't really need it if you stay clear of the copyright / trademark items.

The highlighted 4e in Venture 4th is pretty clever.

Also, it's an indicator of how being the 800 lb gorilla can actually backfire for WotC.

Everyone who plays RPGs knows what you're referring to when you say 4e -- so there's little need to actually put the D&D logo on your module.

Why is this considered a backfire?

If the GSL had been a reasonable document, publishers would just use it. As it is, more publishers are looking at what they can legally do without using the license that WotC released.

That's how the GSL has backfired.

I just mean that normally one would need to name the thing you're indicating compatibility with, which makes you subject to risky trademark law since most names are trademarked.

But since everyone knows what Adamant is referring to without them having to say Dungeons & Dragons (R), that makes it a lot safer for Adamant.

On a side note, if/when Gareth pops into this thread: you have some serious cajones! Best of luck and hope you make a bundle of cash!
