Adamantine Abuse

Say a character is able to buy some adamantine (because he knows Sigil, because he helped some miners find adamantine and they are willing to sell it to him, whatever). To make an Adamantine weapon, you add 3000 GP to the base price.

This means (ruleswise) that if you want to make an Adamantine Greatsword the Adamantine is just as expensive as making an Adamantine Shakaram. (see where I'm getting at?)

So, you buy enough Adamantine to craft a Greatsword. That's 15 Lb. (iirc) of Adamantine, for 1000 GP (1/3 of the base price). Instead you craft 14 Shakarams (weighting 2 Lb. each) and sell them (or keep some).

So, instead of paying 14000 GP, you have paid 1000 GP. That's a huge profit if you manage to sell those Shakarams.

Now, even worse: the same character decides to make a *colossal* Adamantine Greatsword. So he buys, let's say, 50 Lb. of Adamantine for ... 1000 GP, and instead he craft adamantine weapons for the entire party...

So, what is IC gonna stop this nonsense (of course hitting players and stealing stuff might work, as well as making adamantine a non buyable object)?

Perhaps the pricing rule of Adamantine is flawed, maybe change the rules back to make the price scale with damage? Make them scale with weight?

3000gp doesn't necessarily reflect the raw cost of the material. It probably also reflects the other special materials need to craft the adamantine in the first place. In fact, that's probably the majority of the cost.

I don't think you only pay 1/3 the price for special materials. I believe you have to pay the full 3k for the adamantine.

To limit the abuse say that it is exteremely rare and that no matter who your connections are you are only going to get enough to craft 1 weapon. Don't tell them how much they got, just that it is only enough to craft a single weapon.
