Advancement Levels of Celestials and Fiends?

In the DMG, the Half-Fiends and Half-Celestials have "Level Equivalent" of "class level + 3". Is this the same thing as an Advancement Level? Is there such a thing for a full Celestial or Fiend? If so, which book might it be found in?

Basically, the way I understand it, a character starting play as a Half-Celestial would be equivalent to a level 4 character (class level + 3). Don't full Celestials have to start out at higher levels as well?

that is the DMG's listing of its ECL. So if you have a 1st level Cleric who is a half celestial, he'd be balanced with a 4th level Cleric.

Of course, Savage Species changed the ECL of Half Celestial and Half Fiend from +3 to +4 IIRC

And I think Full Celestials and Fiends are only ECL 2. The Celestial template is less powerful than the Half-Celestial template.

could someone post a PC that is human with the half-celestial or fiend template with say 4 or 5 class levels of any class using the rules from Savage Species?

i am having a difficult time in determining how such a character would be made.

Since I am bored I'll do this, give me a couple minutes. For the record I'll use 28 point buy to be making a 4th level Fighter, hal-celestial. I'll just use the core books, and the ECL from Savage Species.

I’ll start with the abilities, first I use the base, a human

STR 16
DEX 14
CON 14
INT 12
WIS 10
CHA 8

I chose these because the half-celestial gets some nice bumps to the physical stats, and with an INT of 12 you’ll get an extra skill point and the bump to INT allows for the Expertise chain, if this character goes for it. The DEX will also allow for the TWF path. WIS was bumped 2 because this creatures will save will already be low, even with the +4 Wisdom bump. I used Charisma as a dump stat because, come on it’s a fighter, and it gets the half-celestail bump.

After giving the template, the final stats are:

STR 20
DEX 16
CON 18
INT 14
WIS 14
CHA 12

I get one more point for my 4th level, but it won’t change much no matter where I put it, so I’ll just ignore it.

Ok next I’ll do Hit points.
I get 10 (1st hit die) + 3d10 + 16, for an average of 48.
AC before equipment is 10 + 3 DEX +1 Natural for 14
Initiative is +3
My speed is 30. And I rolled a 74 to see if I have wings (Ok, I didn’t roll, but my player got this for his Half-celestial), I have a fly speed of 60 with good maneuverability.

Base attack is +4
Saving throws:
F 4 + 4 = 8
R 1 + 3 = 4
W 1 + 2 = 3

Skills: I get a total number of skill points of 35. 28 from class (7*INT mod of 4) + my 7 from being human.

Attacks are
Melee +9
Ranged +7

Feats:
Total of 3 at 1st level
1 at 2nd
1 at 3rd
1 at 4th
So 6 total feats

Then I get the half celestial abilities. I can use light at will. My INT or WIS is 8 or higher, so I get some spell like abilities. Protection from evil 3/day and 1/day Bless, Aid, detect evil. I gain low-light vision. Immunity to acid, cold, disease, and electricity. And a +4 bonus to fortitude saves vs. Poison.

Then I can buy 27000 gp worth of equipment, the same as any other 8th level character.

I didn’t want to spend more time just buying equipment, selecting skills and feats. But I bet you get the picture.

Although Half-Celestials lack that yummy SR...

Yeah, I bet its wonderful when they have one hit die. OOOH! I have SR of 2! But they don't get the immunities, but get DR. And they don't get the ability bumps as the half-celestial does.

Oh, I'm not disputing that half-celestials are more powerful.

But innate SR25 is nice.
