[Adventure] A Chef's Request (DM:renau1g; judge: covaithe)

[SBLOCK=OOC]Just an idea like that, Blurred Step is an Opportunity action, which means it is an interrupt. Ghorgor could shift to J4 before the dragon and thus, preventing him to shift and he would be forced to only attack Ghorgor. If Ghorgor is ready to take the hit.

Another question, if that previous idea is not allowed or not taken, is Mind Spike usable on that attack (in otehr word, it the power he used two distinct attack or only one?[/SBLOCK]

The power is one attack, just against two different targets. So by my understanding no marks would be triggered. However, Ghorgor can shift to J4, but then I believe the dragon can then choose a different location to shift to as that isn't available as a legal space, and so he would shift to J5, still attacking Calisto. Now, he'd be caught in a flank there, so it's better from that persepective.

[SBLOCK=OOC]I would have thought the opposite, if the Battlemind shift into the intended square, the enemy lose that movement. If he can shift N squares, he would have N-1 squares left to shift.

That would be similar in strength to the Combat Superiority power of the Fighter who stop a movement of an enemy.

I've look for a clear answer, and all I have seen, it is people are split between the two possibilities.

I've sent a question to the customer service team, but I think their answers have seldom been in contradiction with further FAQ or Errata.[/SBLOCK]

Ok, so I've got an answer. It's been Errata'd in July so now the decision is clear. The action stands as is.

Blurred Step
Page 44: In the Action Type entry, replace “Opportunity Action” with “Free Action (Special).” At the bottom of the power, add the following line: “Special: You can use this power only once per turn.” This change updates the power to reflect the original intent: A battlemind should be able to shift after the triggering enemy shifts. A battlemind should not be shifting as an opportunity action, which precedes the triggering enemy’s shift. [/sblock]

This isn't strictly accurate - The "Double Attack" power is worded similarly to "Make two Bite (or Claw, or something else) attacks," with a Bite attack defined as one of the monster's melee attacks earlier, correct? The PHB states that "Some powers will allow you to make multiple melee attacks, against either multiple enemies or a single enemy," which I believe is the case here. Both attacks are separate attacks, just as if a Ranger used Twin Strike, both of his attacks are separate and independent. In either of those cases, I'd expect using an attack on an enemy that did not mark you would trigger the mark. Of course, this only applies to melee or ranged attacks, as close and area attacks have their own rules regarding this.

Of course, DM fiat > rules in any case.[/sblock]

J'ryi desperately strikes out against the kobold that suddenly appeared behind him, using a flashy maneuver designed to intimidate more than damage. For the first time since being knocked unconscious, he manages to strike down an opponent, fuelled by a bloodied rage. Realizing the extent of his injuries, the dragonborn attempts to take cover behind his goliath companion. He gasps out, "I'll keep them occupied, just land some hits!" He then crouches down in an attempt to avoid further harm from the far-off slinger.
