[Adventure] A Chef's Request (DM:renau1g; judge: covaithe)

OOC: Karmic's PC is a gnoll so I had half a mind to describe how he sniffed Leonard's bacon soaked clothes (due to the 'hat incident') and just followed with a slobbering mouth. ''Hmmm... Bacon.''

A soft growling issues from the door, as a mangy beast pushes its way through. Before closing behind the creature, a vicious clawed hand grabs the door and shoves it open. A large figure stalks in, hunched over, sniffing near the ground with its feral canine features. He approaches the party, but seems ignorant of their presence as he continues to pace the floor, drawing Georges' protestations. Failing to heed the Chef, the gnoll takes a final sniff, then stands upright, satisfied with what he has found. "There has been much death here recently." The gnoll does not question - he merely states facts. Turning to his hyena companion, he continues: "And it won't end at that, Orthos - death stalks this group." Together, he and his hyena stare hungrily at the corpse of Fissure. "It does not do to allow the dead to fester and rot in your presence, lest you attract vultures. We could easily save you the trouble of a burial for this one; we have been tracking him since he entered the town proper. Just ask Eryto, and it is done."

Ghorgor frowns in concentration. Ghouls are checked off the list so that lets 'Fracture' off the hook. But are hyenas and gnolls on the list? So many items, it's hard to remember. He starts counting on his fingers.

-''Hum... Tongue of something, saliva of beastie, poison of monsters... Hyena... Hyena... hum...''

Ronen, Deva Wizard 3

"And I feared others would find me strange because of my blue skin, before I arrived at this place. First mechanical men, now undead and Gnolls..." Ronen says to no one in particular.

Ronen needs some approvals, BTW ;)

The group is given their directions to the drow's mansion on the Inner Bay of Daunton. A snooty halfling seneschal gives the group a bit of a hard time as he stares up and down the motley group, his eyes lingering over the undead giant, the gnoll, and the garishly dressed goliath. "I just hope you aren't the new trend in Dauntonian fashion" he mutters as he leads you to a sitting area.

A servant, a drow female, comes by and offers a glass of spiderblood wine to those interested, water to those not. Any who partake in the grey wine find the drink highly acidic.

The wine is made from mushrooms and spider venom.[/sblock]

After about ten minutes a male drow enters the room, he looks young, but with his race, it is anyone's guess his exact age.

"Greetings, I am Lord Daevion'lyr. Georges sent ahead to tell me a bit about you. I hear you and yours met with a bit of trouble on your last excursion for our resident chef. That is regrettable, but I fear that I can offer little assurance that the task I ask of you won't bring you into harm's way. As Georges no doubt told you, my son, Illivair, was abducted whilst out on a fishing excursion past the Outer Bay. The guards were found dead in the ship and my son was nowhere to be found. I have had a diviner attempt to locate him, but his piwawfi, his cloak, blocks most of the detection spell. However, they did pick up a trace of him deep, deep within Daunton. They estimate he may be in The Depthworld." he pauses there and lets that sink in.

[sblock=Arcana/Dungeoneering DC 15]
Very little concrete information exists regarding the depthworld. Most residents relegate it to the stuff of childrens tales and nightmares. Experts residing on the various isles maintain that there is a huge network of interconnected caves that run beneath the shifting seas, connecting to the isles in ways both mundane and magical.
[sblock=DC20]
Some even theorize that Daunton has remained at the focal point of the transitive isles for so long because of a physical connection to the depthworld that holds it in place. However the only thing that can be said for certain is that The Depthworld, if it exists, is a place of danger and strange alien sights unlike the surface world.[/sblock][/sblock]

"So, as you can likely surmise I would like to hire you to locate my son, if the kidnappers entered this Depthworld, then there must be an entrance somewhere. Based on the evidence at the ship we expect that kuo-toa were involved, whether they were they knew the nature of my son, or if it was circumstance, I am unsure. If you can do this I would be extremely grateful, and in addition will offer some gold rewards and something that you will likely find useful, as well as offering any aide in locating the remaining ingredients" he says after a few moments.

Ghorgor takes a tentative sip of the wine, smiles appreciatively and then takes the whole bottle.

He listens to their employer attentively when he hears about the kidnapping.

-''Oh son is gone. Great tragedy!'' Ghorgor exclaims in sympathy. ''We go kill Kuo Toa anyway, we happy to bring back any son we find.''

Ronen, Deva Wizard 3

Ronen politely dismisses the wine and orders some water.

After the drow ended his speech: "I think this means that we all be looking for your son, as Ghorgor is the senior member of this group. Where can we start? Which location your diviners pointed you? Something more specific than 'deep in Daunton' would be most helpful. Divination wasn't the focus of my studies."

"A simple thought, was the magic of his cloak made to prevent to detect the wearer. Is a divination on the cloak itself would work. An Eladrin I knew explain me how some enchanter forget such detailed when they work there magic. If you had a piece of the tissu used to create the cloak, you might be able to point out where your son is. Assuming also that the creator of the cloak haven't thought of that too." suggests Leonard.
