(Adventure) A Merry Chase *Judge: Uriel

"Hold still!", Zoe yells as she turns her horse sidewards to the left, so she has free space to swing her bastard sword might one approach, meanwhile grabbing the princess and holding her to her left to protect her from the orcs (forgoing shield bonus), ready to swing at one of the halforcs, might they come close by.

I shouts in Orcish: "Don't approach, if it is an horse you want, we can sell one to you. But if you want to take it by strenght, there will be dead on the raods, and not necesserly us."

As soon as one of the orc charge, I shoot him. (Crossbow: +3, I still have the ring.)

One of the half-orcs with a club shouts "I will take what I want from your corpse!" and charges forward. Seph's bolt goes wild, but Rinaldo's strikes home and a blow from Zoe lands the hot headed bandit in the dirt. Meanwhile, the one with a sword has placed his hand on the arm of the other club weilder and looks at Rinaldo with curiosity.

"You want to avoid the king's toll, but you'll pay one to us?" He says in accented common. "I wonder what your game is?" He looks at you, and as his eyes settle on the princess they suddenly light up with shock. He turns without another word and begins running back off the path, scrambling up the incline.

The third half-orc looks at his one fallen comrade and the rapidly retreating back of his leader, then at Rinaldo. After a pause he says in orcish
"uh... I have nice pretty rock for horse... want the fat one though..."

"I see you are more reasonable." Rinaldo says in orcish. "You need a horse, we can trade you one, but we will need the other two. I suggest you put down your weapon at your feet and I'll do the same. We will both approach and do the deal, but before accepting, I want to inspect the rock. I am ready to sell it, but not at any cost, and as you can see, it would be useless to fight, I think we both can be civilized people." He looks down at the fallen Orc. ''He should not be dead, only knock out, and as long as you show good will, no blood will be shed, I promise."

While he unmounts, he says to Zoe. "We will need money during this two weeks. I know we told we should give them back, but I think we can give an equivalent money. I will take it from my part. And if I can make a good deal, they will let us go without harm and I'll make sure they think they have a good deal."

Rinaldo drop down all his weapon except his rapier. When he will see their leader start to do the same, he will drop his rapier and start to walk slowly up to the middle of the distance, with the fat horse near him.

OOC: Oh yeah, I use diplomatie to convince them of my good will and try to improve their reaction. And who is riding the fat horse?

Persephone

"Damn, can't let him get away," Persephone mutters. She then rests her crossbow on her lap, and yawns, covering her mouth with her left hand, and pointing at the fleeing half-orc with her right.

OOC: Cast sleep at the fleeing one.

OOC: just to be clear, it was the aparent leader who fled the scene. The largest of the horses is being ridden by zoe and the princess.

Halfway up the hill, the half-orc stumbles and collapses, and gentle snores soon fill the air. After a moment, the remaining bandit puts down his club and says in orcish
"I give you his sword too...."
The princess giggles, and says "No honor amoung theives, I suppose."

OOC: if Zoe resumes her detect evil ability, btw, she will determine that only the half-orc who charged radiates a faint aura of evil.

"Stay there, and no harm will be done to you"
shouts Rinaldo in Orcish. He turns to Zoe. "Well, what we do with them? We can let's them go, they are no more dangerous. We can take their weapons to be sure they won't try to attack someone else soon. We can possibly use them. They may know the place, but I don't know how much we can trust them, surely not enough, the leader will sell us. We can take them as prisoner, but I think they would be just too much troubles.

Finally, the best thing would have been to never meets them."

Persephone

"It's OK, Rinaldo. It will be known soon enough that we took the princess, and the guards know our descriptions. Let's take any loot they have, and let them go." she continues in a whisper "and perhaps mislead them about the direction of our travels."

Persephone will dismount and search the bodies, keeping a cautious eye on the last bandit.

"Why do we not just let them go? I doubt they will go after us again, and even if they would, they are on foot, while we ride horses. I guess the fallen one will regain consciousness eventually, but I do not know for the one downed by Persephone. So, yes, they live troubled lives, but perhaps they thank that due to their heritage, who will tell?"

Zoe starts to move again as she sees Persephone moving to the unconscious halforcs: "Please, Persephone, that they tried to rob us, should not bring us to lower our standards to their equivalents. Let them keep their meager belongings. Besides, we have other stuff to think of."
