(Adventure) A Merry Chase *Judge: Uriel

Persephone

OOC: Gosh, I haven't met a wyrven since 1E.

Persephone loads her crossbow, stands to aim over the top of the wagon (or around the side, depending on how tall it is), and shoots a bolt at the creature. "You'll find this princess has a stinger herself, you murdering monster!"

crossbow: +1(1d8) 19/20 x2

The bolt flies true and feathers the dragon in the tender area already wounded by the pole. It throws back its head and roars in rage and pain, then readies itself to charge the wagon behind which Seph is urgently reloading...

(some lucky rolls to start the fight and 14 hp. I will auto play rinaldo if I don't hear from him by tonight.)

OOC: Sorry, my comp got a cold. Seems like the Sasser worm, but all the removal isn't effective... seems I got a new kind of Sasser. So I may be less often on the web until I find a cure for him. :(

Rinaldo take his hand crossbow. "Great idea, Zoe! Now we have to fight it!"

He shoots, trying to get the advantage of the first moment of the fight to put the bolt in an eye.

(Velmont, you're listed as having a light crossbow, not a hand one... lhand does less damage but is more concealable. I'll give you damage as light for the moment, but please clarify.)

Rinaldo's bolt strikes as well (9 hp), and the beast roars its pain again before lumbering towards Persephone and whipping its tail toards her. It sticks into the wood of the wagon and leaves a trail of sticky clear fluid as it is ripped free. Zoe shouts a condemnation in Hyrag's name and charges in to smite the foul beast. Her sword bites deep (9 hp) but the dragon remains on its feet.

Persephone

Persephone screams briefly at the thought of experiencing the fate of the wagon. (Poison reminds her of spiders and such gross things.)

If she can see over the wagon, she'll move back(5 foot step) to keep the wagon between her and the dragon. If this would prevent her from seeing the dragon, she'll just move back 5 feet. She then loads (move action) and fires her crossbow again. Hopefully, the wyrvyn is large enough for her to fire at it w/o endangering Zoe.

You can't take a move and standard action with a five foot step. You can make a move to full cover from the wagon and reload, or move back and cast a spell, but not shoot again this round without drawing an AoO.

The princess has crammed herself up inside the wagon, trying to take as much cover as possible.

Persephone

Realizing neither of her offensive spells would likely be effective against such a monstrosity, Persephone will move towards full cover and reload her crossbow.

OOC: Sorry for the hand, it is a light. I am so use to play Rogues, and 90% of them have hands crossbow, but Rinaldo a merchant, the light crossbow was more fitting...

And one thing, you can take a move-equivalent action with a 5 feet step, as long as the move-equivalent action is not actually movement, which means, the move-equivalent is not making you move from your square. I am sure at 95%, so you can check to make it 100%...

You should run away. Think of your wife. Think of your kids. You shouldn't be here. You shouldn't do this.

Rinaldo drop his crossbow and draw his rapier and buckler.

"Now, let's see if my cousin tricks are working against such a beast."

Even more bad idea Rinaldo. Bad idea.

OOC: Drop crossbow, draw buckler and rapier. Then, he starts to move around the creature. Is there some place to fight behind that creature?

the srd is ambivelent and this I think is one of the changes from 3 to 3.5, so I'm gonna go with what makes the most sense to me for the moment.

Rinaldo moves around to flank the dragon as it turns the brunt of its rage on Zoe. Visciously flailing with tail, teeth and the claws on its good wing, its attack leaves the paladin bleeding on the ground. (at -1, but saved against the initial poison damage.)

Persephone shoots again, but her shot goes astray and she curses as she reloads. Rinaldo draws the beast aside with his movement and lunges in, but the scaley hide is too much for his thrust. The angry dragon turns on him, missing the dancing figure with its deadly stinger and wing, but getting a glancing bite in on the young merchant's shoulder (6 hp, assuming you are using expertise).

Persephone

An anger rises in Persephone, overcoming her fear. This dragon has killed people, and now wants to eat her, her friends and the princess in their care. From the relative safety from behind the wagon, she'll continue to reload & fire as long as she can.
