GM: Sorry to hear that. I hope you are doing OK. I'll NPC Brenn as long as you need me too. :)

Brenn points out that the skull in the statue's hand has a small line like crack running around the top. It looks like it can be opened.

Sir ExSixTen smashes the skull open with his axe. With a crunch the bat hiding inside is smashed too. With a clank the key hiding inside falls to the ground, thankfully not-smashed. It has a skull shaped handle.

In response to all the smashing, the runes across the walls flash with brilliant blue light and the statue lifts her walking stick in the air. It too flashes with bright light blinding Jax, Andras, Brenn and Sir ExSixTen.

In a moment their eyesight comes back, but the magic leaves them with a dazed feeling.

GM: Trap rolls

Next combat encounter: Jax, Andras, Brenn and Sir ExSixTen are dazed for their first round of combat.

Jax snatches up the key before Sir Exsixten can smash it further. He then backs away slowly from the statue, wondering if it will thwack him with the staff.

"What kind of stupid trap was that? There weren't even any spikes or blades. Only animals would be scared by bright lights!" Jax suddenly wheezes loudly. When he next speaks, he sounds very tired. "A-anyway, let's find what this key goes to."

OOC: Any doors in here we haven't used?

OOC: Any doors in here we haven't used?
GM: No door here, just the passage you came from and the one in front of you with the "unnatural darkness".

Brenn (with his 3rd edition elf power of automatically spotting everything ;)) would have spotted any secret doors.

"Looks like we need to take a walk in the dark," Brenn said quietly, pointing towards the oily blackness ahead. As he spoke, he kept blinking his eyes rapidly, as if trying to clear them. "Want me to take point?"

Sir Exsixten, staggering and weaving even more now, his error messages down to a constant faint whine, stumbles into the darkness.

OOC: I'm assuming his light doesn't affect the magical darkness.
