"Eh?" Atella says, realizing his mistake. He picks up the coins and bites into them. Satisfied, he asks "How many more than two are there?"

"Many more," the Captain says simply, "certainly enough to make it worth your while." He returns the two pouches to his belt. In Atella's professional estimation, each purse was large enough to hold at least a hundred or so large coins, and both were quite full.

All this time Jo listens silently to the exchange between Atella and the mysterious stranger. He still has a feeling that he would rather not get involved in this affair, but is waiting to see what develops out of the negotiations. Atella clearly has more mercenary motivations.

Haisi, after several more rounds circling overhead, realizes that Jo isn't following, at least not quite yet, so he lands nearby for a rest. Needless to say, he doesn't understand the topic under discussion.

Atella looks at the two gold coins in his hand, weighing his options.

200 gold to retrieve the object - 40 gold each. I'd be doing the actual breaking and entering, and would face the greatest prosecution if caught. I'd also have to deal with the traps - a ship like this wouldn't be left unattended. All for 40 gold.

20 gold each for information. But agreeing to this might earn the enmity of those two thugs on the boat. Better to let them deal with it.

I'm new in town and sorely in need of coin, but these don't look like such good prospects.

Returning the two gold coins, Atella says "Sorry Captain Word, I can't help you. But the guy behind us might be able to."

Turning to Jo, "Back to the tavern now?"

"And who would that be?" Captain Word wonders, looking past Atella to the dark and empty street.

"Sure", Jo replies. "It's late." Maybe I ought to get a room there for tonight, he thinks, although we had been hoping to be on our way.

"Come on, Haisi, we're finally going", he says, although the eagle has already gotten the message and taken wing again.

OOC: I thought Captain Word heard D'Artagnan behind him, but looking back I see he did not. Did you edit that, or am I losing my mind? :p
