Before the guards arrive, Roswyn again takes Harkin by the arm and pulls him to the side, not entirely gently. "Harkin, the Watch will be here any second," she says. She forces him to look in her eyes. "Is there anything else about your father, or this gang? Anything you suspect, even if you're not sure? If he's mixed up with them, I need to know now, before I talk to them. I can't protect him if you don't tell me the whole truth now."

"Umm...." the halfling whispers, "You know the businesses around my Pa's shop? They were boarded up and closed. I don't think they were just shut down. I went inside one and it was ransacked, there was blood too. I think the kobolds were behind it."

"Thank goodness!" she calls out. "Where were you? I mean, I'm glad you're here now!" She wrings her hands, appearing quite flustered and upset.

One of the guards, orders, "Get over here, against the wagon. What happened. We've got dead kobolds, and you guys are covered in blood. I'm no fool, and I can make conclusions, but I wanna hear your story first."

The half-orc claps again a the older halfling wakes. As Talky Gnome takes away the younger one, Tondrek says, Hello, Kidnapped Man! I'm Tondrek! And those are Talky Gnome and Little Big Girl and Marky 'Forged and Scary Dark Man., pointy to Roswyn, Rohna, Cleaver and Tamarand in turn. He then pauses a moment and points to Harkin. And... uh... Tondrek not sure who he is. Job Guy? Tells us you his son or father. But could be a changmaling. Or in disguise. Once, I knew one of those brain people that pretended to be a person. She was nice. Hey! Do you like my staff? Made it myself. Tondrek smiles widely without a care for the world, or the oncoming guardsmen.

"Thank you," the older halfing says. "Thats my boy, likens himself an adventurer. Like me in my younger days. I've got a reward for you guys, but that can wait until this mess gets sorted out."

[sblock=Recruitment]I'd like to get another PC, it gives you guys a little more breathing room, plus I think there are still others waiting. Thoughts?[/sblock]

Tamarand bares his teeth again and hisses in anger, but knows full well that a battle with the guardsmen of Sharn would not be wise.

Wheeling his lizard towards the wagon, Tamarand sheathes his blades, doing his best to appear non-hostile. "Good Sir, we were saving a man from these kobolds, they attacked him, and us, then tried to steal him. We caught them and saved this man from them. We were just trying to help out Sharn, that's all" the drow says innocently.

Diplomacy (1d20 13=20)

I'm open to recruitment, especially with king needing to drop out/hiatus.

I know Mal's in the tavern with a dwarf invoker, not sure if we need 2 controllers, especially losing the one of the highest pure-damage strikers, but he's the only PC sitting around right now. My PC can be up close with some of his encounter powers, but functions better at range.

[sblock=OOC]As r1 said, there is only one recruitable PC as far as I know. I'm fine either way.[/sblock]Tondrek smiles at the guard, and waves after helping the halfling up. Doggie keeps a steady eye on them.

OOC: For whatever it's worth, Roswyn used prestidigitation to clean up, so she doesn't have blood on her... :)

Roswyn nods and moves over to the wagon, but stays facing the guards. She gets out her identification papers and hands them to the guard who spoke as she passes.

"Yes. I was hired by this young halfling " - she indicates Harkin - "on behalf of his father, a shopkeeper " - she indicates Ronald - "to undertake a negotiation. But since there were indications that the other party " - she indicates the dead kobolds - "might not be prepared to negotiate in good faith, we also engaged some security, hoping that their intimidating presence " - she indicates the other adventurers, with an emphasis on Tamarand - "would keep the other party from doing anything foolish."

She stops and takes a deep breath. "But apparently, it wasn't enough to dissuade them. Before we could even set the terms of the discussion, these individuals set about ransacking our employer's shop, attacked us, and bodily kidnapped our employer. We defended ourselves and tried to get him back. Luckily, we succeeded, and no bystanders were injured."

I made BOOM! Tondrek interjects, pointing the the flour residue left over from his arcane shenanigans.

The guards listen the stories of Tamarand and Roswyn. "Well, I don't like you doing my job for me. What is done is done though. We ain't gonna just let you off though. When word gets around that this happened in our area, if ain't gonna be pretty. You got more than words to persuade us?"

[sblock=OOC]A bribe, huh? Can anyone think of any bright ideas to avoid paying up?

Also, Roswyn doesn't have much cash available... ;)

Evo, can Roswyn estimate what amount would be customary in this situation?

Rohna leans over to the ear of their negotiator whispering. "Hows about we split the salvaged armor, weapons, cart and horses here of these ex gang members. Could be a tidy little side profit to a guardsmen salary with the proper fence?"
